Just get yourself into a routine, and do that every time you swing. Be intentional. Have at it.

  2. Fergie32

Keep wasting all the good ones on the range

  3. Sea_moore

Probably thinking too much because you’re on the course vs. the stress free swings on the range. Just get up to the ball and hit it.

The more you think the more you mess up. Did this yesterday. Shot 39 on the front, got up to a hole I always mess up, thought about that, and messed up. Went to the next hole and just swung without thinking and got through it

  4. charcharcharmander

For me, it’s the visual difference, difference in ground feel, and lack of reps on each tee box that make it harder out on the course.

  5. highbrowshow

If you really want to practice on the range the way you play on the course just give yourself 1 ball instead of a bucket, then you‘ll see it’s exactly the same

  6. Kyrie-Swirving

Confidence. No consequences on the range so you can get up there and not think about hitting a bad shot, so naturally you’re more relaxed

  7. Cartavian

Because you’re not skilled enough to do it consistently. Keep practicing.

  8. StageGeneral5982

Because youre constantly thinking about why you can’t hit driver while on the course

  9. Normal-Afternoon-594

    Superstition. It’s in your head.

If you can do it on the range, you can do it on the course. Plain and simple.

  10. Necessary_Position51

Because the fairway isn’t 80 yards wide. You just swing the club on the range, but get tight and try steering it on the course,

  11. Paging Dr Rotella, is Dr Rotella in the house.

  12. HamsterEagle

You need to have the club the other way up.

  13. Logboy77

Because you aren’t as relaxed as you are on the range.

  14. No_Explorer721

Just because you hit the sweet spot, doesn’t mean the ball is going straight.

  15. generalizedweakness

The space between your ears is usually the problem. Mickelson once said really smart and dumb people do well. Everyone else their brain gets in the way. My last couple years of playing I went to the course with a what would a dumb guy do attitude and I was happier.

“Golf is a game of inches. The most important are the six inches between your ears.” — Arnold Palmer

  17. Sasquatch_000

I think a lot of it is the visuals. At the range your just freely swinging to an open spot. In the course you’re trying to pin point.

  18. internet_humor

Because you aren’t doing a pre shot routine.

On every single shot. Pick a very small “field goal” made up to two items in the distance (posts/trees/markers) and then step back behind the ball. Look down the line. Aim. Set up. Hit.

Manually log the hit/miss left/miss right/etc. repeat starting from behind the ball and re aiming. Strive for 100%. Leave with a minimum of your probabilities for misses and in which direction.

    Other way around for me.

I look like an absolute buffoon on the range and then everything goes back to normal on the course.

I think it’s because I’m trying to add distance when on the range and it messes my tempo up a lot, which creates loads of problems. When on the course, I only focus on my usual tempo and sending the ball where I want.

  20. NotoriousMFT

I’m of the mindset that you find a flow and don’t think at the range.

That’s a kind of freedom we never allow ourselves on the course

  21. Top-Caregiver7815

    Simple, you’re not under pressure.

  22. sleepytime03

Spray the hock itch spray on your balls on the course, gotta stay dry baby.

  23. Teachmehow2dougy

When you are on the range are you hitting your driver once then putting it back in the bag and not hitting it again for 13 minutes?

  24. Kitkatcrusher

Can’t wait to do another practice session!!!

  25. 2010_12_24

Because you get one shot from the tee as opposed to dozens of shots from the range.

It’s relatively easy to make minor corrections in your swing after 8 bad attempts on the range. So just drilling driver at the range over and over isn’t helping. You need to practice like you’re actually playing a round sometimes. Hit driver, then a 7i approach shot. Maybe hit a wedge. Then go back to driver.

You gotta randomize your shots at the range to get better quicker.

  26. derby555

Do you make a sacrifice to the golf gods before you tee off? If not, then there’s your answer.

  27. Illustrious-Past-115

But…. There’s only one good strike and three misses?

  28. AsheronRealaidain

Did you spray the face with something?

  29. Leandrys

Because there’s a real target, dangers on the sides, a score to deliver, because there’s : PRESSURE.

So, your swing’s is not the same, your mindset is not the same, your tension is not the same, your routine isn’t the same…

Your drives ? Straight to jail.

  30. Busy-Ad-6912

I think it’s a little of everything. Mental gymnastics, being on a mat, perfect lie, no pressure, etc.

  31. Forsaken-Can7701

    Fear. Anxiety. Distrust.

Also, you swap clubs after every shot on a real course. Do you practice like that at the range?

  32. chickenbucket7

disagree with most people here. the reason is that at the range you hit 50 driver shots in ten minutes ignoring the shanks and loving the bombs. on the course you might have the same shank/good hit ratio but you get 15 minutes to obsess over every shank
