ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Michigan State is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, held at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. last week. The Spartans shot a 17-over par 869 (290-299-286) and senior Caleb Bond was the top finisher for the team, finishing in sixth place at even-par 213 (71-70-72).
The Spartans opened the year with a fourth-place finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, firing a 32-under par 832 (282-277-273), the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history and the 15-under par 273 in the final round is tied for the fifth-lowest 18-hole team score at MSU. Junior McCoy Biagioli was the top finisher for the Spartans, tying for third place at 15-under par 201 (69-69-65). Biagioli’s score of 201 is tied for the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history and one shot short of tying the school record, set by Drew Hackett in 2022.
Bond leads the team with a 70.33 scoring average, with Biagioli second at 71.17 and junior Lorenzo Pinili third at 71.50.
LUBAHN’S THOUGHTS
“I talk constantly about memory-makers and we had one last week playing in the Folds of Honor and we get one again this week, especially for Ashton. We did not expect to have him back again this year but I think it’s great that we get a chance to bring him home to play in front of a lot of family and friends. On the golf side, we weren’t happy with our finish last week and this is a chance for us to kind of show we’re made of and rise to the expectations we have for this team.”
