Avoid Disaster Holes With This Play #golf #golftips
Perfect example here. I’ve got 162 yards to the flag. And as you can see, I’ve got bunker right and I’ve got water to the left. So 162. Now for me, that’s actually a perfect eight iron. It’s a little bit into the breeze. I can hit an eight iron at the flag. But if I pull it a little bit, it’s in the water. If I push it a little bit, I’m in the bunker and then I’ve got a bunker shot back towards the water. Now, not a lot of people would think about this, but it’s actually okay to play this par three shot on the 17th, not going for the green. So instead of hitting an 8 iron and going for the flag and risking a disaster hole, I can actually hit this 9 iron. Now I can hit my n about 150 yards. I know I can’t reach that bunker. I may not be able to reach the green. If I pull it, I might just get the front edge, but I’m probably going to be an area on the fairway short of the bunker and I can either putt or chip from there. I can’t really hit it in the water doing this and I definitely can’t hit in the bunker. So it may be playing for a bogey. may seem defensive, but what it will do, it’ll stop a five, six, or a seven on this hole. Okay, so eight iron. Sorry. So, eight iron. Don’t need it. Let’s go nine. All right, that looks pretty good. It’s going to be on that right side of the fairway. Should have a little bounce left from there. There we go. Golf ball, as we can see from there now, a chip, a putt. That’s fine. It might be a bogey, but it’s definitely not going to be a triple.
It might sound crazy, but sometimes the best strategy is to aim away from the green. Learn how this simple course management decision helps you avoid double bogeys and keep your scorecard alive.

If you are worried about missing a green with an 8 iron you have other issues.
Bore off ffs laying up on a three.
Man up & take on the flag!
Oh, that water is definitely still in play! 😂
Dustin Johnson says
To hit a fade aim a little left and make sure it fades
Excellent example of how to play a hole safe. Would most of us play it safe? Probably not but if you have a comfortable lead and not wanting to mess it up play it safe!
Weak Sauce… I’da hit a 7 at 80-90% to get more control for chance to putt birdie. Especially since this green looks like it’s slightly elevated from the tee. Folks do yourself a favor grab an iron and take some off… feel the touch.
Or stop thinking about the trouble and just hit a good shot, simple.
Oh, you definitely can hit it in the water
I'll go for the green
Yeah I'm not doing that. God hates a coward.
Nothing worse than those distaster holes!!😀
