Trump caps his Scottish visit by opening a new golf course

(AP) U.S. President Donald Trump opened a new golf course bearing his name in Scotland on Tuesday, capping a five-day foreign trip designed around promoting his family’s luxury properties and playing golf.

“Let’s go. 1-2-3,” Trump said before he cut a red ribbon and fireworks popped to mark the official opening of the new Trump course in the village of Balmedie on Scotland’s northern coast.

“This has been an unbelievable development,” Trump said before the opening. He thanked his son Eric for his work on the project. Son Don Jr. was also present.

Immediately after the opening, Trump, Eric Trump and two professional golfers in the foursome teed off on the first hole.

They planned to play 18 holes before Trump returns to Washington.

The overseas jaunt let Trump escape Washington’s sweaty summer humidity and the still-raging scandal over the case of Jeffrey Epstein.

It was mostly built around golf — and walking the new course before it officially begins offering rounds to the public on Aug. 13, adding to a lengthy list of ways Trump has used the White House to promote his brand.

Billing itself the “Greatest 36 Holes in Golf,” the Trump International Golf Links, Scotland, was designed by Eric Trump.

The course is hosting a PGA Seniors Championship event later this week, after Trump leaves.

Signs promoting the event had already been erected all over the course before he arrived on Tuesday, and, on the highway leading in, temporary metal signs guided drivers onto the correct road.

Trump used his trip to meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and reach a trade framework for tariffs between the U.S. and the European Union’s 27 member countries — though scores of key details remain to be hammered out.

But the trip has featured a lot of golf, and having the president visit is sure to raise the new course’s profile.

The new golf course will be the third owned by the Trump Organization in Scotland. Trump bought Turnberry in 2014 and owns another course near Aberdeen that opened in 2012.

  1. he stole their water for this new golf course! All residents in Scotland who live near here have not even enough to flush toilets.

  2. My how times have changed. When Eisenhower went golfing, it wasn't news. When Trump goes, he is the devil incarnate, planning his next way to screw the poor.

  3. America's stupidity on display!
Golf is not a presidential requirement
and yet in Trump's brain, he considers this a strength!
This shows his vapid lack of intelligence and awareness.

  4. Boy, I sure hope Bill Clinton isn't on the Epstein List. I don't want to have to cancel my membership to his gold courses, return my gold coins, sell off my Clinton Crypto, burn my hats and other merch and find a place to bury that Clinton Bible I got. /smh

  5. Why is an American taxpayer like me (old, living on Social Security – until the Republican's cut it, anyway – and savings) paying for a billionaire's personal business trip/golf vacation including room and board for his support staff and Secret Service detail – all housed at Donald's properties, paying, no doubt, full price which goes directly into DJT's bottomless pockets?
    Doesn't this breach Immoluments Clause?
The man's narcissism and greed make me dizzy – and furious.

For Don, the presidency is a power trip with the opportunity to endlessly enrich himself, e.g. a luxury airplane, aka bribe, from an Arab autocrat. In case anyone out there wondered, the US president can be bought.

  6. tRUMP went to Scotland to avoid questions about Jeffrey Epstein and do personal business on the taxpayers dime. That's an honest headline.

  7. We still want the Epstein files don’t forget you all promised Americans they would be released on your Bullshit America Again campaign

  9. I do like when Trump appreciates quality items. Pens, scissors, markers, buildings, and women. All of things can be horrible. Appreciate when you get a good one.
