Egan Bradley was faced with a tough decision over his six captain’s picks for Beth Paige Black in late September. Despite his own strong performance, he chose to select six other players instead of himself. Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters Champion, was not among Bradley’s selections despite finishing third at Augusta this year. Instead, Justin Thomas, Colin Morawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Klay, Sam Burns, and Cameron Young were named as Bradley’s captain’s picks. Following the announcement, Reed, while participating in the Amgrren Irish Open, was asked by the Irish Male if he planned to watch the Rder Cup. He confessed that he won’t be tuning in. “I’ll definitely be rooting for the boys,” he said. “But it’s one of those things that I don’t watch golf when I’m at home.” I realized that when I had my two little ones, I mean, there’s life outside of golf, he made it clear where his priorities lie. So, when I’m not practicing or playing, I’m home being a dad, being a husband, being a father and all that, just having a good time rather than trying to be so tuned in to golf and watching other golfers play. Reed also shared that he was hoping to make the cut. I knew it was going to be an outside shot just because of not being able to get points and things like that just being on live, he continued. But honestly, I felt like the games had been really good until this week. Reed, 35, has seven top 10 finishes and one victory across the LIV season. He missed the cut at the Open Championship, a tournament the American concluded he needed to win. I mean, the driver has just been awful, Reed continued. I feel like this week has not been reflective really of how I’ve been playing, how I’ve been hitting the ball. I’ve been hitting the ball great. When asked who the most difficult player to exclude was, Bradley couldn’t identify a single player. They were all tough. It was all me sitting on my chair in my house trying to get the strength to call these guys. He said, “I know what it takes to get this close to making the team and not making it. You never know if you’re ever going to get another shot. As a player, I was aware of that when I didn’t make the last team. It’s heartbreaking when you get this close to making a Ryder Cup team one of the hardest teams to make in any sport. It’s devastating. Team USA RDER Cup.
