Today we are at the Cascades course at the Omni Homestead Resort. We’re going to be challenging the head pro Mark. See what he’s got. Wait, this is kind of Can you catch me? Got you. Hello. Yes. Nice to meet you, Adam. I know you guys. You guys are the dividers. I’m guessing they told you we were coming. Well, I kind of got a heads up, but welcome to the Cascade. So, we’ve been told that you grew up here, you know, beating Samne on the course and that you got a pretty good golf game. I did grow up here. Now, beating Sam is another story, but I was fortunate to know Sam my entire life and played with him the first time when I was 16. Wow. Wow. My game’s not quite what it used to be, but Well, we’d love to get a match going today. If you still got the time, I’ll make time. Tell me tell me what we’re thinking about. We’re going to do a 2v one. Connor and I are going to be scrambling up against you. And there’s a catch, though. For every single stroke you beat us by, you’ll get $100 cash. Really? We’re currently 0 and4 in this Head Pro golf series. So, the odds are in your favor, but you never know. We could catch a hot streak here and come out on top. Well, let’s do it. I’m ready. Mark Fry here is the director of golf for the Cascades course and the whole resort. Yeah, absolutely. Resort in the clubhouse. We said $100 per stroke you beat us by. You said it’s not about the money though, so we’re going to mix it up and we’re going to take that money that you’d win for a hole and we’re going to donate it to whatever charity of your of your choice. It’s not about the money for me. You know, this is a game of a lifetime and so hopefully your watchers and your viewers will enjoy the scenery and if I can uh beat you guys a couple, then we’ll make a good donation. I think that’s a great plan. We We’re out here in Hot Springs, Virginia. Really excited to kind of showcase this course and what beautiful Hot Springs, Virginia is all about. Let’s get after it. The guest goes first on our channel, so you lead us off. Can we get a mulligan on this game? Yeah, always. I’m a big fan of mulligans. The 10th hole here at the Cascades is just a slight dog like right. It’s a blind T-shot. It’s a fairly short hole. The driving distance you want to try to hit it probably in the 260 range. And there’s a little more room right than you can see, but kind of straight ahead. Left center is a good good target. Okay, left center. I mean, I feel like I’m watching Sam Sneed right now, man. That was Well, that’s a ultimate compliment for a Virginia boy. Like I was watching Freddy couples with the tempo right there. That was pretty awesome. I snapped my driver in half so I’ve got something fun for us today. Oh no. We’re rocking the Sasquatch, baby. Guys, we’re in for it today, boys. We just got to chalk up the L. We’re going to be donating $1,000 to some charity. I was on the Nike staff for a period of time. That’s a little aged there. He knows big about this club. You know, you I would say historically probably I was a good driver and a pretty good iron player. Weakest part would have been chipping and putting. Chipping and putting and all that around the green is about 60% of your game. If you’re going to be strong in something, you need to be strong in putting, which is 43%. But this hole is the 12th hole, currently a par five. Okay. In 1988, when the US amateur came here, they played it as a par4. This particular hole was voted the best hole in Virginia. like the toughest best hole in Virginia for as a par4. I’ve converted it back to a par five and added an additional T in the back. Yeah. Okay. So, you guys still have the T. So, okay. Let me see that Sasquatch. Put it to work again. That thing was just right of the walnut, Connor. You’ll be good. Uh, he turned it. And he he went back and he told his friends, “This place in the mountains, when you get in these springs, you feel like you’ve you’ve gone back 20 years in time and your body feels.” So his he started bringing people and then he slowly but surely figured out, you know, if if people are going to flock here to take these waters, we need to build an inn. When the course was originally built, the green was about 30 yards on this side of where it currently is. In an effort to add length, they moved the green back. Futuristically, I hope to move this green back to its original condition. And because of that, I built another T way back there. Oh boy. At 53 yards to the hole, but I like to move the green back to where it was. You’ll see when we get here, this screen has an elephant buried in the middle of it. Good ball, man. Do you want to go back to the ping driver? Come on. Make sure I hit that well. And that’s safe side kind of. I just know that pines on the left are a No. I know. Look at this new driver. This is a dog leg left par five. The Cascade Stream is covering the right side. The shot here is just hit it at the clubhouse. And if you can turn it a little, which Connor is now able to do, uh, this should be a prime T-shot for Connor. Just at or left of the clubhouse, it would be perfect. Holy straight. Hammered. That’s perfect. It might have gotten the rough barely. No, I think it’s right there. I think we’re good. Good shot, dude. Sasquatch. Sasquatch. Out of the woods, baby. So the pond in front, guys, comes all the way over to the left of the pin. You can see the cut line where the rough is. That pond stretches out over there on the left. Just so you know, it’s kind of from this angle. It’s force carry all the way. So if I’m going to chunk it and chunk it left, chunk it left. Right. Your chance to put the pressure on me. Uh, and there’s a little room behind it. So, I think it’s just gonna be a little soft sixiron. Try to keep it a little left of the pin. Can’t plan on them missing anything. So, it’s in my hands. Mark is 20 ft for eagle. So we got to chip this in or get it really close for birdie to try not to when we finish this round one or two under it. Be a great round. It’s pretty I mean kind of came out soft. It’s better than bad for sure. Yeah, it’s a good it’s a good safe play. Nice. Okay. Got a couple inches on you there. Just can’t plan on them missing. Both of our golf courses here at the Omni Homestead Resort and Spa finished with a par three. So many many matches have been won or lost here. You could come to the 16th hole and be, you know, two or three down and and go birdie birdie or eagle birdie like our boys did and uh come to this last hole and the match could be decided here. Hey, let’s have a good last hole right here, guys. Absolutely. It’s been so fun so far. It has been fun. Been a good match. You know, I gave you guys a little head start. was two two bogeies on the first two. Fought back back as hard as I could. I’m now one up, but it’s coming down to this hole. Oh, bunker. Going to the beach. Yep. Yeah. All right, we’re in play. Got to get my hips into it. You do have some flexible hips, too. Show us. Yeah. Mhm. Yeah, dude. You should be able to dancer. Anything on the green. Sam Seed once made the bet that he could hit 10 balls in a row on this green. Someone bet him and I think he kept hitting till it was like 15 or 20 and they just rolled off. Oh my gosh. So, I’m feeling the same vibe. Need something on the green. Try to put a little pressure on you guys. Oh yeah. Get up there. It’s there. Ah, that’s a great putt. All right, so tell us tell us the charity. What’s the story? Who are we donating to? I grew up here in the county and I played on the high school golf team and fortunate to make a career out of golf. And 3 years ago, I noticed that the high school kids, there were only two kids on the high school golf team, which was discouraging. This small county, which is about 4,200 people, has produced 43 golf professionals. Wow. In its day, starting with Sam Sneed, and a lot of people followed his footsteps. But with only two kids on the high school golf team, it was disheartening. So, I started a uh a junior golf program called the Virginia Highlands Youth Golf Academy. I wanted to raise a half a million dollars and then with any luck and dividends at 4% I could give away $20,000 a year in scholarships. Come on. I’ve given away two scholarships so far to $4,000 last year and $4,000 this year. That student will get $4,000 every year. While they finish college. So, currently got a bit over $240,000 in the account. Just lost JC in April, one of my best friends, but he made a huge donation. So the the scholarship is named after him, the JC Sneed Memorial Scholarship. So that $100 if you guys would donate it to the VHYGA, I’d be privileged. So we we just said no matter how much you beat us by, we’ll go at least 500 bucks. Oh, that’s awesome. We’re going to do $500. So we’ll give it to you. You guys are great. And we had a great time.
