Scottie Scheffler received one of the worst breaks of his season when his ball hit the back of a lady’s heel and ended up resting on some tree roots during the second round of the Procore Championship.
The Procore Championship on the North Course at Silverado Resort marks the final PGA Tour event before the Ryder Cup in New York in two weeks time.
Team USA captain Keegan Bradley urged his troops to compete in this week’s tournament in order to build up their competitive reps ahead of their biennial clash with Luke Donald’s Team Europe.
Ten of Bradley’s 12 players are here in Napa this week, with just Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau absent. Schauffele is out to be alongside his wife who gave birth to their first child last week, while DeChambeau remains suspended on the PGA Tour as a result of his ties to LIV Golf.
Scheffler started a red-hot favourite to win a sixth title this season, but so far for 36 holes it’s not quite gone to plan for the World No.1.

Despite a solid start to Friday’s second round with five birdies on his outward nine having started on the 10th, he endured a tough back nine.
Scheffler hit a number of errant tee shots on the way home, one of which cost him a first bogey of the day on the par-4 1st, his 10th.
He then made a string of four pars in a row before dropping another shot on the par-4 6th.
That was not without a moment of controversy, however, as Scheffler’s ball bounded off the heel of a lady spectator before resting in some tree roots.
The unfortunate break for Scheffler saw him force to chip out sideways into the rough.

He would get that dropped shot back with a birdie on the par-4 9th, his final hole of the round, to card a 4-under 68.
Scheffler finds himself at 6-under par, which is currently eight shots off the pace being set by his US Ryder Cup teammate Ben Griffin on 14-under par.

Henley progressed to 11-under par for 36 holes as he goes in pursuit of his second title this season.
