Golf Central on YouTube is brought to you by the new Chrome Tour Golf Ball from Callaway. Scotty, how would you uh assess that round and what was the vibe like for you out there today? Um, I mean, I think it was pretty frustrating day overall. I felt like I did some things well out there. I just wasn’t quite getting the reward. Um, yeah, that’s pretty much it on my end. I know you kind of looked at maybe taking a drop by the second, right? On three. I’m I’m your third shot on 18. Sorry. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, I was behind I was behind all those tents and a scoreboard and I would have liked to have been able to see the pin when I was hitting my approach. Um, granted you should probably be on the correct hole while doing that. Um, but I could have gotten relief from the scoreboard or the uh the like the tent grand like the whole grand sand tent area, but either one of them would have brought me into the rough. So, it wasn’t wasn’t quite worth it. You know, the grouping is that there’s so much there’s some focus on um you play with these guys all the time in the in the like feature pairings so it’s not really new but did it feel any different just because they’re all going to be your teammates in a couple weeks? Um I yeah I think it was a little different today just uh you know knowing that all of us were kind of paired in the same little little area of of tea times and um you know we’ve obviously been spending a lot of time with each other this week so it definitely feels slightly different than it would if this tournament was in March. You know the Ryder Cup is is right around the corner. Scott, could you Not really. I tried. Scotty, can you put into words kind of the chemistry that you and and and Sam have and kind of how it developed and and what is it about him that makes you guys tight as friends and and Yeah. Well, I mean, Sam Sam’s a great guy. He’s a great person off the course. You know, he’s extremely competitive on the course, but he’s a guy I’ve known since since junior golf. I’ve known him for a long time. So, we’ve had a relationship for quite a while and been been good buddies. We were good buddies in junior golf and um you know we’re still good buddies to this day. Just as a follow on his putting everybody obviously he’s kind of acknowledged for for what Furry does on the greens and how good he is. What what in your opinion makes him such a good putter whether it’s technical, mental, what you know what are the things that you analyze when you look at I mean I think mentally he’s really tough. I think he does a really good job of staying free and loose while he’s putting. Um you know he does his little aim point stuff. He does it very quick and uh you know he kind of gets an idea where he wants to and then it’s like everything else shuts off and he just hits it. Um so It it’s pretty impressive. I’ve talked to him about it numerous times the way he does it and you know that’s kind of something that’s that’s helped my putting as well trying to become more athletic, be more visual and that’s something that that he does really well. So you try to glean whatever you can out of that as much as you can. Well I mean I think I think we all can learn from from each other out here. Um you know just because you’re good at one thing doesn’t mean you can can learn from somebody else. So I feel like I’m always trying to learn little bits and pieces from guys when they’ll when they’ll give up some information. Scotty, what do you think of this course and what’s important? What what are the important things to finding success here? Well, you got to got to get the ball in the fairway. Um, you know, there is a little bit of quirks to the golf course, especially as it firms up. The the greens can be pretty challenging and um late in the day, you know, poetic can get fairly bumpy. So, especially with the amount of pitch they have in these greens, so the greens were were pretty difficult to putt and I kind of found myself on the wrong side of the hole a few times, but but overall felt like I learned a good amount about the golf course today and excited to get out early tomorrow and see what I can do. Scotty, we talked yesterday about the benefits of playing this week. Are there any drawbacks to playing this week? Any drawbacks? Um, I couldn’t really think of one. Um, I mean, you could maybe nitpick and say, you know, you could use some rest, but like I said, it was more important for me to be here instead of having, you know, four weeks off before the RER Cup. Everybody good. Thanks, Scotty. How important is it? Uh, I mean, it’s just one day, but most of your guys are playing pretty well, Router Cup guys. How important is that? And were you looking at that at all as you were playing today? how everybody was doing. Yeah, I I I mean, yeah, our group played pretty solid. Um, you know, we want to sort of keep some form or knock some rust off, whatever you want to call it, this week. And I think just the goal is to to stay sharp and and do the best we can. How much do you how much have you played with this guy? I didn’t look it up. Have you had an opportunity to play with him very often? I play with him Sunday at Memphis. I have probably a handful of times. So, but is this week help? because Keegan kind of talked about just you guys spending time together. Yeah. Hopefully that’s we’ll change that to good luck. Um sorry. Oh yeah. So no I haven’t played with Scotty much but it was nice to kind of and I think that’s what Keegan’s goal is to just get everyone familiarized with each other. Like he obviously knows I haven’t played with them very much. So, you know, granted what the pairings will end up being, you know, we want to get comfortable playing with each other. So, um, but I’ve played with him pretty recently and I’ve played well. So, it’s just good to play with him and and learn from him, but also, yeah, feel comfortable in your own skin. How’d you play today? Because it looked like kind of middle early back n you weren’t sure where the ball was going or maybe didn’t like where it was going. Yeah, I just there’s when when we get this win, this this course for me driving is always kind of a struggle. I’ve played here every year. Um, and I feel like it’s up there with Sony as far as being able to hit fairways. But yeah, it’s just, you know, it’s just one of those places where you can’t really put too much pressure on getting it in the fairway because you can still scrape it around and grind and that’s kind of what I did today. But, um, yeah, it’s just a lot of awkward T- shots for me coming in on this course with this wind direction. Right, Ben? Off to a nice start. Got yourself in the mix, but how was that vibe out there today? The vibe? Uh, yeah, it was great. Um, you know, it’s funny. Last weekend, Jupiter, me and Cam and JT played like three rounds together and we didn’t know exactly we were going to be paired together, but um you know, we played a lot of rounds together, so it felt pretty easy out there. We we’d seen each other hit a bunch of shots over the last week, but um yeah, the vibes were great. Um just awesome to be here in Napa competing um leading into the RDER Cup with all these other guys, but um yeah, really proud of the way I I focused in kind of at the start here. It’s easy to kind of get myself thinking ahead on things, but um you know, there’s a there’s a tournament here, the Pro Core, and I’m trying to trying to win it just like a lot of the other guys here. So, just trying to keep the pedal down, keep swinging well, and hopefully make a lot more putts, too. Along those lines, as far Sorry, I was just going to say a little adventurous finish just um us through that uh last hole if you would. Yeah, just trying to hit all parts of the golf course pretty much on one hole. Um no, I Yeah, I I was in the trees on all the par five day for some odd reason. Um, and every every time I hit a T- shot, I was like, I wonder what tree is going to be in my way this time. So, um, on 18, I I had two trees to deal with. I had a one that I tried to I really just got greedy on my second shot. But there was a tree and I was trying to go kind of underneath it and kind of around and draw it. And it’s hard to curve the ball out of the rough. Um, especially when the ball’s sitting down. And, um, that’s a that’s a situation where I just need to take a little bit more medicine. I try to take a I took like fourth of a dosage of medicine there and I needed to take a full dose of medicine and just hit it 60 yards instead. try to push at 130. Um but yeah, I just got greedy. Hit the second tree, bounced in those those roots. Um didn’t hurt myself. Advanced it forward and yeah, I was just happy to give myself even a par look to that pen. It’s really tough to get it close to that. Um coming from the fairway even. So um awesome to make a a par there that felt like a birdie to me and um hopefully ride that momentum into tomorrow. Keegan talked about wanting you guys to spend time together just from a familiarity standpoint. You never played with those two on tour, but obviously a lot of practice rounds like you said y last week. What are you What are you taking from this week getting a chance to spend time with those two? Yeah, it’s great. It’s it’s awesome to, you know, have an extremely competitive field here. Some of the best names in in golf on tour and so um it’s uh it’s fun to hang out with the team. Um get closer with all those guys. you know, most years with it seems like in the past with RDER Cups, I haven’t been a part of those teams, but it seems like you almost set the teams and then the whole team doesn’t really get fully together until almost, you know, the Ryder Cup. I think last year a few of the guys went over to Rome and played practice rounds early, which was tough with the time change, but or that was two years ago. But, um, it’s really cool to just be around all the guys, get more and more comfortable with each other. That way when we get to Ryder Cup week, it’s going to feel like a breeze. So, uh, which it’s not going to be. we’re going to have to bring our agame obviously and play really well and play strong golf. But just really awesome to hang out with all these guys, get to know everyone better. Um and then yeah, play rounds out there um together as well. Um just to see each other’s games, see what see if we maybe mesh well with each other if if we have any advice to even Keegan on pairings. But I think all the captains kind of know what’s going to happen. They they paired us all up together for for reasons probably. And um you know, we’re just uh trying to have fun with each other and gear up. Yep. [Music]
