Canterbury Golf Club’s Angela Jones led England Seniors’ women’s team to glory in the European Championship when they beat Sweden 4-1 in Saturday’s final.
Team captain Jones’ squad finished third in last week’s stroke play qualifying stages at the Pula Golf Resort on the Spanish island of Mallorca, with all six England players inside the top 31 in a field of 120.

They then beat host nation Spain 4-1 in the quarter-finals and reigning champions France 3.5-1.5 in the semi-finals.
Jones said: “We also won it in 2018 before I took over as team captain after Covid.
“We won the Home Internationals last year but there is no World Cup for senior women so this was the summit, the greatest trophy we can win, and they smashed it.
“I knew I was bringing a good team and now I know how good they really are. They are the best team that I’ve had the privilege to be part of.
“Its tremendous and I realised how much bigger this is than the Home Internationals when people kept ringing me up and congratulating me, including the Chief Executive of England Golf, Jeremy Tomlinson.
“Pula Golf Club was a wonderful place to hold the championship. It’s a great match play course and was in super condition.”
