Had a 4some let me and my 2nd play through, young (17/18yo) kids said it was their first or second time out. This is my first year, so I’ve got very little to be proud about. Step up, *CRACK* and (for me) bomb it 235, bounces to about 245 or so. Kids say “Wow! You’re pretty good!” to me after I said it was my first year too, and shrugged. Now, they didn’t realize I was just off the fairway in the rough of the NEXT hole over after an obvious slice.
Take notes, gents. THATS how it’s done.

One of the highlights of my golfing career came around this time last year at Brattleboro Country Club on the 12th. I was playing solo, in no rush, behind a group of ladies in their retirement years. I walked up to the 12th, and they were waiting for me to let me play through. Ended up striping an absolutely crushed ball that would have gone further than 305, but ran into a little hill. They were a flutter with how far I hit it. All I could think was “play it cool, play it cool, like you do this on every hole.” Picked up my tee and I could think was “don’t f up the pitch, don’t let them see how much you suck.” I was happy they didn’t see my muffed tee shot on the par 3 13th…
For anyone interested, that area has some good golf. Between Brattleboro CC, Crumpin Fox (in Deerfield MA), and then like an hour west is Taconic Golf Club, there’s some really fun golf to be played out that way…

My last round at my club some guy took a call at the 10 tee and let me play through. My approach barely cleared the recently cut weeds of the ravine. So I look into the weeds and see a ball and grab it. Then another. Then another. 3 min of picking and the guy behind me shows up and shouts something. Me and my Patton like trousers dives into finishing. 4 attempts of the ball rolling up the club face and pick it up and move on.
We hit a slow group ahead and played a couple holes together and that was pretty miserable. He didn’t talk. Not even a nice shot. I let him go in his way after 2.
