Angelene once stood at the edge of walking away from golf completely. Years of nagging injuries, including damage to her Vegas nerve, failed swing experiments, and the pandemic’s disruption, left her questioning whether the game she had chased since childhood, was worth the pain. But instead of surrendering, she tore everything down and rebuilt her game piece by piece that on the mixed bag podcast with me Atkins and Matthew Galloway in open up about her lowest moments and the fight to rediscover herself. The episode fittingly titled The Angeline Experience detailed how she nearly quit only to claw her way back with brutal honesty and perseverance. Her story took a decisive turn in 2023. A runner-up finish at the Chevron Championship proved she still belonged among the elite, sparking a breakout season that propelled her into the world’s top 10. Looking back, she admitted the struggles have been mounting long before the pandemic. I wasn’t playing well in 2019 and then CO hit. Ian recalled, “CO really dragged my game down and I dragged myself down. I was experimenting with my swing and it just led me into a hole where I started getting injured because it wasn’t the right way. The pandemic stripped away her rhythm. Her body broke down and quitting began to feel like the only option. It got so bad that I didn’t even know if I could continue my career. She admitted, “Oh, how did she turn around?” Ing credits a mix of humility and persistence. She reached out to trainers, doctors, and mentors who helped her understand the root of her physical setbacks. One of the most troubling was a vag nerve injury in her left shoulder that affected her posture, swinging mechanics, and even her stress levels. On top of that, she battled ankle and foot injuries in 2024 that she began to analyze everything from old swing footage to equipment changes. I literally sat on the couch watching videos of myself asking what changed inset and I realized it was my clubs. From there, I just kept thinking and figuring it out by making key equipment tweaks and rethinking her training. She began to regain control. Though she’s traditionally loyal to her gear, her custom Burke AI77 putter remains a constant. in tested new drivers, including a Ping G430 LST, in search of consistency off the tea. Her approach became less about reinventing and more about maintaining strength and refining small details. That patience paid off. Her runner-up finish at the 2023 Chevron Championship marked the start of her revival, and her breakthrough victory at the 2025 LPGA Thailand cemented her comeback. Now ranked inside the world’s top 10, she embodies resilience turned into mastery. Looking forward, Ian is eager to dawn US colors at the 2025 Hanwa Life Plus International Crown in Korea. For her, the event represents more than just competition. It’s proof she has rebuilt herself to the point of leading on the global stage. Her journey from near retirement to worldclass success shows how setbacks can become stepping stones. Every injury became a lesson. Every moment of doubt a test of resilience. Today, Angeline swings not only with power, but with the wisdom of someone who nearly lost the game she loves and came back stronger. The Yin story is part of a broader theme in golf. The triumph of resilience. Joel Domen is another shining example. At just 22, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, a battle that threatened not just his career, but his life. Through surgery, treatment, and grueling recovery, Domin fought back with the same determination he now brings to the fairway. For Domin, every swing after cancer became a reminder that persistence outweighs adversity. His return to the PGA Tour wasn’t just a comeback. It was a testament to mental toughness. Beyond his own success, Domin has become an advocate for others, offering inspiration and support. In 2024, he praised Rory Mroyy’s leadership during a difficult stretch for the game while also reflecting on a legacy of icons like Arnold Palmer. Both in and Domin prove that golf’s greatest victories don’t always appear on scorecards. Sometimes they’re won in hospital rooms, on training tables, or in quiet moments of self-doubt. Their stories remind us that the strongest swing is often forged in adversity and that true champions are defined by resilience as much as results.
