Delvin Hospice Homecare and LARCC in Multyfarnham were the beneficiaries of the classic held at Shay Murtagh’s golf course on Saturday. The course was built for Shay and his friends, neighbours and community, and it was put to good use for two worthy causes at the weekend.
The event was the fourth of its kind and more than €30,000 has been raised for charity by the three previous classics. Breda McHugh, a cancer survivor and a keen golfer who was involved in setting up the event, said that there were 175 golfers on Saturday. The weather, while not perfect, behaved for most of the day too.
Delvin Hospice Homecare is a branch of North Westmeath Hospice and raises funds to provide specialist palliative care services, ensuring that people who are coping with life threatening illnesses, death or bereavement can access appropriate home care and support.
North Westmeath Hospice is a voluntary organisation set up in 1994 to help provide specialist palliative care services for the people of Westmeath. LARCC is a well known cancer support centre that offers psychological and emotional support to people living with cancer, from its base in Multyfarnham.
