Don’t miss this inspiring story of teamwork, talent, and determination on the golf course!

Imagine two high school golfers stepping onto the course, not just to play, but to rewrite history. That’s exactly what happened at the Davies Invitational when West Fargo Cheyenne’s Payton Ster and Zoe Keane didn’t just break records, they shattered them. But here’s where it gets even more impressive. Both athletes finished with identical scores of two under 69, tying for first place and setting a new benchmark for the Mustangs girls golf program. This wasn’t just a win, it was a statement. As the final putt dropped on hole number 18 at Rose Creek Golf Course, Stalker, who had already completed her round, cheered on, keen, knowing they had just cemented their place among Cheyenne’s golfing elite. Stalker’s strategy was straightforward yet effective. I was kind of playing safe off the tea, she explained. I felt like I couldn’t really miss my approach shots. If I had the yardage and the right club, I knew I could hit it. Her performance included an even par 36 on the front nine, followed by three birdies on the back nine with a lone bogey on number 17 and a closing par on number 18. Keen’s journey was equally remarkable, starting one over after the first nine holes. She rallied with three consecutive birdies on holes 15 through 17, showcasing her resilience and skill. The greens were rolling really nice and the weather was perfect, Keen noted. Payton and I just took full advantage of the conditions. And this is the part most people miss. Their individual triumphs were just the tip of the iceberg. The senior duo led the Mustangs to a first place team finish with a total score of 298, breaking another school record and coming within three strokes of the state record. Junior Ava Keane, 79, Senior Addie Berkkey, 81, and Junior Aubrey Selheim, 82, rounded out the team’s impressive performance. “Our secret weapon this year is our depth,” said Mustangs head coach Dan Wolf, highlighting the team’s balance strength. “Sheyen’s dominance isn’t new. They’ve won all nine meets this season, proving they’re a force to be reckoned with. Fargo Shanley 337, Grand Forks Red River 339, Fargo Davies 350, and Fargo North 358, rounded out the top five teams individually. Fargo Davies senior Rose Soulberg, 72. Grand Forks Red River senior Ellis Spidle, 76, and Shamley sophomore Anakah Astrop, 78, stood out with their performances. Looking ahead, the Mustangs will compete in the Shanley Invitational on Monday, September 15th at Fargo Country Club. We need to stay confident, Keen emphasized. We’re all feeling good about our games right now. But here’s the controversial question. Can the Mustangs maintain this momentum and challenge for the state title, or will the pressure of breaking records become a double-edged sword? Let us know what you think in the comments below. One thing’s for sure, this team has already proven they’re not just playing the game, they’re redefining
