THIS WEEK  

The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Madison, Wisconsin, as they head to the Badger Invitational  on Sept. 14-16. The  54-hole tournament will be held at University Ridge Golf course (par 72, 7,286-yards) beinning Sunday  with a  9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.

THE LINEUP 

Iowa’s lineup includes senior Shannyn Volger, senior Riley Lewis, junior Ximena Benites,  junior Maura Peters, freshman Sunny Wang and senior Kaitlyn Hanna will be playing as an individual.  

THE FIELD  

The 14-team field includes: Bradley, Colorado State, Deleware, Denver, Illinois, Iowa, Sam Houston, South Dakota State, St. Thomas, UW-Green Bay,  Washington State, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin. 

THE COURSE  

The University Ridge Golf Course gets its name from its unique landscape that was created by the lastretreating glacier. This course has long and wide-open fairways with rolling and well- manicured greens on the front nine while its back nine is framed by tall trees everywhere. The course, which was built by Robert Trent Jones, was the site of the 1998 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship as well as the 1998 NCAA Championships.

A REVIEW: 2024 BADGER INVITATIONAL

The Hawkeyes finished 10th at the 2024 Badger Invitational, firing a 54-hole total of 908 (302-298-308). Returner Junior Ximena Benites – tied for 20th place with three-round totals of 225. Junior Maura Peters had a career-best 18-and 54-hole total at the Badger Invitational, while tying for 38th place. It was Peters’ first tournament in the Hawkeye lineup.

OF NOTE…  

• Junior Ximena Benites paced the team at the Boilermaker Classic, tying for 18th place with a 221 (69-78-74) total. Benites tied her career low with a three-under-par 69 in round one of the Boilermaker Classic.

• Freshman Sunny Wang tied for 25th during her Hawkeye debut with a 224 (78-75-71).

• Senior Shannyn Vogler  and Sunny Wang fired a one-under-par 71 during round three at the Boilermaker Classic. 

UP NEXT  

The Hawkeyes will return to action on Sept. 29-30,  when they host the Diane Thomason Invitational presented by Scheels.
