Martin Kair will forever be remembered for delivering one of the most iconic moments in European Rder Cup history at Medina in 2012. Yet more than a decade later, the German star finds himself watching from the sidelines. Once a fixture in team Europe throughout the 2010s, Kare later returned as a vice captain under Podrick Harrington at Whistling Straits in 2021. But since joining LIIV Golf, his Rder Cup involvement has stalled. While one of his fellow vice captains, Luke Donald has risen to become Europe’s leader, guiding them to victory in Rome in 2023 and preparing to lead them again at Beth Page Black. Kare has had to take a step back. Donald’s back-to-back captaincy makes him the first to hold the role consecutively since Bernard Gallaer in the 1990s. Whether he stays on after 2025 is unclear, but looking further ahead, Kare hopes to one day get his own chance at the top job. It would definitely be a dream to be a Ryder Cup captain. Karee told Bunker Desi at UK, “It doesn’t matter if it was in Europe or America, to get that honor would be amazing. For now, that dream remains out of reach.” Having resigned from the DP World Tour after joining LIIV, CARIA is currently ineligible for consideration. Still, with tensions between the tours seemingly softening, the Click’s GC captain is optimistic. My hope is that any LIIV player has the chance to be a Ryder Cup captain one day, he said. Kir admitted he needs to raise his level if he is to be part of the conversation again. I need to be realistic. I need to play a little bit better and maybe I should play a bit more on the DP World Tour 2. I would like to, but it became extremely difficult for obvious reasons. Leadership, however, is something he has already embraced. His experience as Cle’s GC captain and as a Ryder Cup vice captain has shaped him for a potential future in charge of team Europe. I’ve learned a lot over the last 3 years, Kier explained. things that I learned from being the vice captain at Whistling Straits help me to be the captain of the clicks. I believe I could become a good captain, but obviously I’m still far away right now. It will take maybe 6 8 10 years. And if the opportunity ever came to lead Europe on home soil in Germany, that came admits would be the ultimate honor. Maybe we are even lucky enough to have the RDER Cup in Germany. I think we have a chance to host one day and that would be an amazing opportunity. Hopefully I would be involved in some role maybe as captain. To host a Ryder Cup in Germany would be the peak of my career in terms of jobs.
