MIAMI (TND) — Kai Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, announced Sunday her verbal commitment to join the University of Miami golf team.

In an announcement posted via Instagram, Kai acknowledged her grandpa for allowing her to use his golf courses. Former President Trump owned 17 golf courses by the time he was elected in 2016.

I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support,” Kai wrote.

Donald Trump Jr., Kai’s father, also shared the commitment via Instagram, writing “So proud of my (not so) little girl @kaitrumpgolfer!!!”

Kai most notably spoke at the Republican National Convention in July, describing her reaction to the assassination attempt against her grandfather.

“On Saturday, I was shocked when I heard that he has been shot, and I just wanted to know if he was okay,” she said. “It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person.”

The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person, but I know him for who he is,” she added.

The former commander-in-chief takes pride in being an avid golfer. President Joe Biden during the first presidential debate challenged him to a golf match with the stipulation that he carry his clubs himself.

“I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him,” the president said. “I got my handicap, which, when I was vice president, down to a six. By the way, I told you before I’m happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?”

The Biden campaign, however, later rescinded the offer, saying “Joe Biden doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics – he’s busy leading America and defending the free world.”
