FARGO — Payton Stocker cheered on her fellow West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs teammate Zoe Keene after Keene sank her final putt of the afternoon on hole No. 18 at Rose Creek Golf Course.
Stocker, who had finished her round moments before, discovered the pair had just etched their names among the best golfers in Sheyenne golf history.
The pair both finished with 2-under 69s, breaking the Mustangs’ girls golf program record. Stocker and Keene both tied for first place in the Fargo Davies Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
“I was kind of playing safe off the tee,” Stocker said. “I felt like I couldn’t really miss (my approach shots). If I had the yardage and I had the club, I could hit it.”

Stocker shot an even-par 36 over the front nine and birdied three in the back nine. She bogeyed No. 17 and made par to close on No. 18.
Keene rallied back from a 1-over total after nine holes, sinking a trio of consecutive birdies from the 15th to the 17th holes.
“The greens were rolling really nice and the weather was absolutely perfect,” Keene added. “(Stocker) and I just took advantage of that.”
The senior pair led the way in the Mustang’s first-place team finish at 298. The total also broke a school record for team scoring and was three strokes off the state record.
Junior Ava Keene finished with a 79, senior Addy Bjerke fired an 81 and junior Aubrey Sellheim hit 82.
“Our secret weapon this year is our depth,” said Mustangs head coach Dan Wolf.
