STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Women’s Golf opened its season with a pair of individuals in the top 15 and a sixth-place team finish at The Southern on Monday and Tuesday at the Forest Heights Golf Club.
The duo of Darianys Guzman and Louise Depadt led the way for the Texans. The pair each recorded a 225, nine over par across the 54 holes to tie for 11th place overall. Tarleton State tied for sixth overall as a team behind a pair of NCAA Regional teams last season including Georgia Southern that reached stroke play of the NCAA Championships a year ago.
“We were happy to get our first tournament of the season in,” said head coach Isabel Jimenez. “We will take some positives and some things to keep on working on as a team coming out of our first of the year. It was a great way to understand what we are doing well at and what we need to improve. We are looking forward to the next one already.”
Guzman led the pack after shooting an opening-round, 73. After the first 18 holes she was tied for eighth overall. In the second round she posted a 75, to finish the first day tied for the team lead at four over par and tied for 13th-place overall. On her final round she shot a 77 to card a 225 and finish tied for 11th overall. Fellow teammate Louise Depadt also tied for the 11th with Guzman after the final 18 holes. Guzman nailed eight birdies in 54 holes, the third most by any player in the field.
Depadt started the event with a pair of 76’s in each round on the first day. She found herself tied for 30th at the end of day one and was able to climb the leaderboards on Tuesday’s last round. Depadt carded a 73, one over par round to tie Guzman for the lowest round as a Texan across the two days. The junior also notched the Purple and White’s first eagle of the season. She was one of five players to record an eagle in the entire field with hers coming on hole nine on her second round.
Lou Deltombe was tied for the Texan lead after the first two rounds. She carded a pair of 74’s to finish the first day in a tie for 13th at four-over par. On the final round, she shot an 82, to finish at 230. Deltombe recorded 39 pars, the fourth most by any golfer in the field.
Freshman Gina Chen started her collegiate career with a 75 in the first round. She concluded her first tournament with an 82 and 80 on the finals two rounds. Chen finished the two days at a 21 over-par, 237. Rebeca Fernandez was the final Texan golfer of the five team golfers for the tournament. She carded a +37 with a low round of 79 on round two.
Competing as an individual, Natalia Fiel Ros shot 248 in her first tournament as a Texan. The Kansas State transfer posted a 77 in her first round followed by an 86 and 85 to close out the invitational. She finished 64th overall at 32 over par.
Eastern Michigan took home the team title after posting a pair of under par rounds (285, 283) on the first day. The Eagles dominated the competition finishing the three rounds 11 over par at 875, 25 strokes ahead of 2025 NCAA Regional Participant, Florida Gulf Coast. EMU’s Janae Leovao and Georgia State’s TK Kongthong tied for the individual victory each carding an even par, 216.
The 2025 fall slate is full of out of state travel. All five of the Texans fall invitationals will take place outside of Texas. Tarleton State will be back in action on Sept. 22-23 in Spokane, Wash. at the Kalispel Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington. Tarleton State will also travel to Kansas twice and to Queen Creek, Ariz. to end the fall campaign.
