Tiger Woods mingled with Democrat governor Josh Shapiro on Monday following the launch of a new golf and education facility in Philadelphia.

The 15-time major winner ceremonially opened a “learning lab,” offering youngsters access to educational materials alongside a golf simulator, podcast studio, and recording facility. Woods’ TGR Foundation financed the initiative, benefiting local pupils from first grade through high school completion.

Woods has been sidelined from competitive golf this entire season following an Achilles injury in March. Shortly thereafter, the 49-year-old revealed his relationship with Vanessa Trump – the former spouse of President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Jr.

However, Woods found himself associating with politicians from the opposite side of the political aisle from the President on Monday. Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro, considered a potential Democratic contender for the 2028 presidential race, and Philadelphia’s Democratic mayor, Cherelle Parker, were present among the distinguished attendees.

“I was brought up: family, education and then whatever sport I played,” Woods addressed the gathered audience at the occasion, according to the Washington Post.

“The opportunities that we’ve been able to create for underserved youth has been something that has been fun to be a part of, and we’re just only getting started.”

Woods detailed why the learning labs initiative holds such significance for him earlier this year. He stated: “It combines my passion for supporting youth through education and golf. We will provide opportunities for thousands of kids to learn, grow and chase after their dreams for many years to come.”

Woods has collaborated with both sides of the political aisle since President Trump’s comeback to the White House earlier this year. The five-time Masters winner participated in discussions with the President as negotiations over a peace agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf heated up earlier this year. Woods also hit the links with the President shortly following his inauguration.

President Trump weighed in on Woods’ relationship with his former daughter-in-law soon after the pair made their romance public.

He seized the moment to attribute a “witch hunt” against his son for the divorce, citing an FBI probe into allegations the Trump campaign conspired with Russia before the 2016 election. Donald Jr. and Vanessa parted ways in 2018.

“I love Tiger and I love Vanessa,” the President told reporters assembled in the Oval Office in March. “[Donald Jr. and Vanessa] had a great relationship. I happen to think the relationship with my son was hurt very badly with the witch hunt. ‘Russia, Russia, Russia.’ All the crap they put Don through. Vanessa and Don have a great relationship.

“Five great children. They broke up quite a while ago which, to me, was very sad. Tiger actually called me a few months ago. I have a very special relationship with Tiger. He’s a fantastic guy and he told me about it. I said, ‘Tiger, That’s good. I’m very happy for both.’ Let them both be happy. They’re both great.”
