HANAHAN, S.C. — The Georgia women’s golf team completed day one of the 21st annual Cougar Classic shooting a 13-over 581 after 36 holes.

This year marks the fifth straight season that the Bulldogs have kicked off their year in the Cougar Classic. In last year’s Classic, Georgia finished eighth as a team.Four out of five golfers in Georgia’s lineup made their debut in the Red and Black on Monday.Sydney Givens (Austin, Tex.) was one of four to make her first tournament appearance for the Bulldogs, leading the team with a three-over 71 performance in the first round. In round two, Givens sank back-to-back birdies on the ninth and tenth holes, finishing the round at even-par.Maria Garcia opened her sophomore campaign, carding an 80 in the first round of play. Garcia made birdie six times in round two and notched a 68 to finish the day.Maria Eidhagen Harrouch (Sandviken, Sweden) opened the first round with a four-over 71. Harrouch made birdie four times in round two, carding a 70.The Bulldogs posted a score of 301 following the first 18 holes. In the second round, they carded a 280 to finish off day one with an overall score of 13-over 581.
