The Back 9 continues on the DP World Tour with an elite field gathered at The K Club for the Amgen Irish Open. Rory McIlroy heads the field, with the World Number Two chasing a second Irish Open title after his victory at The K Club in 2016 and returns to the event for the first time as a career Grand Slam winner following his triumph at the Masters Tournament. Fellow Major Champions and winners of this event Shane Lowry and Pádraig Harrington also tee it up, as does a third Amgen amabassador in Séamus Power. They are not the only major champions that are in the field, as Franceso Molinari, Danny Willett, and Brooks Koepka among others. Rounding out the field’s big names is Luke Donald who is looking to get in a good week before taking on the challenge of captaining Team Europe ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Wind down out of the right hand side. Hanging on to this baby. You must find the fairway. The rough is thick out here now. Not quite in the sand, but not too much in his way. So, well escaped for Maroy. I mean, high soft is hot. I mean, that was an I genuinely can’t remember the last time I saw Michael miss one from 3 ft. Tough T shot. He’s trying to muscle this around the corner. Can he? That is magnificent. 127. Just trying to aim it 20 ft right of it and hopefully get the right amount of spin towards it. Little bit like that perhaps. Always looked a little high. He’s been so good from long range today. Hasn’t quite delivered from about that range though here in the final round. Safe to say all yesterday. Yes, plenty of footage has gone in already for Maroy. [Applause] [Music] He didn’t quite get it. No, he actually got too much of the ball if you can believe that and just he just thought it’d shoot out off the wet compact sand faster. I think firm and straight does it. [Applause] He’s hit three every day. Looked like it. And hugging the left side. every day he has. [Applause] That’s an excellent T- shot. Took the spin right out of it. Dead arming it. Brilliant. That’s brilliant there from Mroy. Set up with a wonderful T- shot there where he can be really aggressive. And this is for the lead on his own. Stop it. A little Mroy magic there at 13. Well, it’s just dropped in left edge. It’s exactly the part of the hole that he envvisaged it going in, but not like that. Crowd reaction [Applause] had a lot of loft on it. Good shot there from Mighty. A big old bucket and he’s been holding them for fun. Why not? [Applause] No hopes dashed. Light the candle. Oh, this is hanging right. Oh no. Oh no. Go. Go. Come on. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] in two in 2016. I can uh for Interesting. He’s playing it out to the right there. He could have gone further left and further on if he want, but he’s obviously playing to a yardage there. How brave is he? A little bit conservative there. I was just wondering, Wayne, does he is there a scoreboard out there? Does he know he’s behind now? [Applause] Yeah, Macro of course won this 2016. He was runner up last year to Raasmus Hoyot. Up and out of it a little. [Applause] Pretty thing. [Applause] [Music] Super putt. Nothing wrong with that effort. Just wasn’t quite to be setting up for a grand stand finish from Maroy with Eagle down the last and with his power. Surely he can get it with an eight and nine iron second shot should he hit a good drive. That could be a possibility. [Applause] That’s launched from Maroy Air 136 ft. Well, he’s given himself a chance. Would you believe it? Maroy Eagles the last and draws up alongside Lagrin. The crowd go nuts. Just box office. And I said, “Give us something to shout about, Rory.” And he’s just did. I don’t think the microphones can take it. He’s old over 160 ft of foot in this final round alone. [Applause] Mark. [Applause] Nice soft bounce. Get in the hole. [Applause] Good solid shot. It was time to get dark. A beautifully struck putt. No gimmies in the playoffs, remember. [Applause] Nice soft bounce. [Applause] chunked it. That’s not the kind of fat shots that I used to hit. Anyway, there of water back into play. [Music] [Applause] this time. There’s no mistake. Maroy with a four and the pressure on Lagrin. [Music] Come on, fell. Yeah. Rory, come on. Come on. Come on, Rory. Let’s go, Rory. Come on. Go, Rory. [Applause] [Applause] It’s muscled out by Mroy into the heart of the green. [Applause] [Applause] What a putt. What a putt from Rory Marco Roy. And now Lagardin’s hole to stay alive. [Applause] [Applause] Rory, um, nine years ago you won your first open here at the K Club. Today you just won your second. Try and describe the emotions if you can right now. Yeah. Um, yeah. Look, I just I feel um just so lucky that I get to do this. I get to do this in front of these people. Um the support has been absolutely amazing all week and um you know I thought uh you know I thought it was going to be a nice homecoming obviously coming home with a green jacket and all that but uh this has been absolutely incredible. This has exceeded all of my expectations and um just so so happy I could play play the way I did um this week for all of them and and get the win. Didn’t get this Augusta, did you? I didn’t. This was this is uh hopefully be getting a bit of it in a few weeks time with the RDER Cup. But uh this is absolutely incredible. I I love coming home. I love playing in this atmosphere. And uh yeah, these are you know you know you know moments like this this is these are the things you’re going to remember um you know well after your career is over and you know this is a really special day. I could ask you about the pon 13. I could ask you about the ton 15 that stayed dry. the putt on 18 in regulation. In your career, have you ever felt a moment like that? Uh, I don’t think so. You know, I I had a putt on the last green last year at RCD to force a playoff with Raasmus. Um, and it just missed on the on the high side. So, felt like it was a little bit of uh it was a little bit of a redemption. Um, and I hit it and I I wanted to just be aggressive with it and um, but like such a such a cool moment, such a cool feeling for that to go in and um, you know, that gave me a chance in the playoff and the playoff the way the 18th was playing today. It just felt like, you know, it was a case of who was going to blink first and, you know, Wack hit, you know, hit a a per second shot in on that playoff hole and, you know, that opened the door for me and, um, yeah, just so happy to be able to win my second Irish Open. Just talk about the crowd once again cuz I saw you there like looking to the crowd there. I saw you look back at them running down the fair. How did that make you feel some running towards this way? It’s inc. You know, I look I again, I feel very fortunate because there’s there’s probably very few golfers in in the world that get the support that um I get when I go home. Um you know, maybe John Ram in Spain. Um you know, there’s there’s maybe a few others, but uh this is this is absolutely incredible. I I don’t take it for granted. Um, you know, I I feel very grateful and and very lucky that I get to do this and um, you know, can’t wait to um can’t wait to celebrate tonight. You said to me at the start of the week that you felt this year was almost complete already, apart from the RDER Cup which is coming up. This week now, how much more complete and fulfilling does it feel? It does. I mean to, you know, to do what I did earlier in the year and then to come home and and win my national open, um that’s a, you know, no matter what happens for the rest of the year, that’s a that’s a pretty cool year. Like 2025 is going to go down as um you know, one of the one of the best, if not the best in my career. And but you know, as I said, we’re not finished yet. I’ve got a big week next week at Wentworth. Uh and then obviously every everyone’s looking forward to the RDER Cup. But um I’m just so happy my game’s in good shape. I feel like I’m playing well. Um, you know, and that that excites me for for what’s coming up. Rory, man, congratulations on Irish Open win number two.

  1. Always great to watch Rory but McGinley is a pain to listen to. He continually finishes remarks with here or there (their use is basically superfluous). He is a total dud as a commentator.

  2. The crowd at 8:50 was amazing, there was a Dad hugging his kid, a group of young lads jumping up and down loving life. There were one or two phones about but most were just there, fully immersed and enjoying the moment. Absolutely brilliant.

  3. Still cannot believe the crowd cheered Lagergren's ball going in the water. Don't care if you're Irish, that is beyond poor form.

  4. He's as close to the Great Sevy you never know what you are going to get . Makes golf enjoyable to watch again instead of boring Scotty.!!!

  5. From what I can see, both the first and second playoff hole drives from Rory landed within a couple of feet of each other – amazing
