Donegal Golf Club – Murvagh 2025

So we’re here at Donagal Golf Club, also known as Murva. Murva and we’re with Lynn Mcool and she is all everything here at the club and she’s in charge now. And tell us a little bit more about the club and where we are in Ireland and and all that good things. Yeah, well we’re in the northwest of Ireland and this is like your first uh gateway uh to Donny Gaul and uh you know we’re here we’ve got our championship golf course. It’s a fantastic Lynx golf course. I mean, it’s a big stadium course and it’s it’s one not to be missed. So, when you’re making the journey uh to play all of our courses in Dunagal Golf Club uh or Dunagal Golf area, you don’t want to miss out Donnie Golf Club. No, I think it’s uh pure links. It’s beautiful. There’s nothing around here except nature, the grass, the fescue, the challenging greens. And you had Paul McInley recently come in here and do a few little things. Uh we What did he do? Yeah, Paul has come in. I mean, the course is an original Eddie Hacket design golf course and uh Paul has come in and made a a few subtle changes and the reason Paul’s been doing that is he wants to make the course more enjoyable for people and people are experiencing that more and more every day now. I mean, they’re coming in and we have so many people coming in from overseas thoroughly enjoying the golf course and you know, that’s testament to the work that that Paul has done. Uh and and it’s great it’s great for everyone that they can come here and play good golf on a a beautiful course. Excellent. You get many Americans that are coming here and what is the feedback that you’re getting from them? Yeah. Well, I mean the feedback is tremendous over here in the Northwest. Our courses what we have to offer in a 100mile drive is just fantastic. I mean you know you start off here at Donnagal Golf Club. You drive up the road to Narin and Port New Golf Club. You’ve got the little crutch island. It’s a magical place. Then you jump across to Port Salon Golf Club. You’ve got the three courses at Rosa Penna. And then you’re going across to Bali Lifen. I mean that is just a tremendous amount of golf courses that anybody who’s an avid golfer uh that’s where they want to come. This is where they should come. Americans are a little u shall we say green about Lynx golf and uh they don’t really understand at all about the magical way that it you play it and you enjoy it and you breathe it. give us a kind of a clue of, you know, more indication from an Irish standpoint of what it’s really like. Yeah. Well, coming over to Ireland, all that anybody wants to play, all the Americans, they want to play the Lynx golf because you don’t get that, you know, in every country. And here in Ireland, you know, we’ve got, I think it’s 52 links courses, uh, around the country. And the beautiful thing is it’s it’s real tight lies, right? That that’s that’s the first thing that people are going to experience. And then you see that little breeze behind me. uh that breeze feels like a little breeze, but when you get right out there close to the Atlantic Ocean, you know, that can play havoc on the club selection that you have. You know, you could be going from a pitching wage maybe to a five iron and you know, so every day is different and that’s what that excites the Americans when they come in and and one of the things is, you know, like the chip and run, the little bump and run. I mean, the rolloffs that we have here, the rolloffs that Paul McInley has put in in a lot of places. Yeah. You know, you’re not going to put that ball up in the air. You’re going to want to bump and run it up. And you have to use the contours of the ground. So, like, you know, when you step in that first te, it’s not just blast the ball out there. You’ve got to think your way around a Lynx golf course. And that’s why our caddies are very busy. You know, they’re giving everybody the little tips as they go along. So, so they make it fun for people coming in as well. Right. And what I love about coming to Ireland is at all the golf clubs is the Irish welcome. And I thought you guys did a wonderful job of that today. And uh talk about how important that is to you guys. Oh, thank you. I mean, like it’s so important when you go anywhere, no matter where you are in the world, you want that warm welcome and and we certainly want that Kefalia here in Donny Gaul. Um you know, we have wonderful staff, wonderful team here, but that, you know, creates the whole atmosphere, the whole ambiance, the whole start of the day. And if we can get people in good spirits heading out there to play the Lynx course and then coming back into the bar afterwards getting a few Guinness or Cruy whiskey or you know enjoying the Irish hospitality. I mean it just it means so much and we’re hearing that back from our operators and and from the people uh from the United States. It’s just tremendous the feedback that they’re giving the team. So wonderful. Well, I hate to leave but I can’t wait to come back. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we certainly want to see you all coming back here and uh you know, we might get a course record there and the redesign that Paul has put into the golf course. There we go. Yeah. Thank you so much. Thank you.

Golf360 TV’s Dave Lockhart interviews Donegal Golf Club’s GM Lynn McCool in the summer of 2025. This will provide plenty of insight from the recent renovations by former Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, links golf in the Emerald Isle, and the warm Irish welcome. This is pure links golf at its best!
