CHOUDRANT, La. – The UNT men’s golf team rose up the leaderboard five spots with a second-round 282 Monday at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club.
The Mean Green were led by a pair of 2-under par rounds from junior Joe Stover and freshman Mitchell Maier. Stover put together a run of four birdies in five holes at the turn, while Maier played the back nine in 33 strokes as both players recorded their first under par rounds of the season.
Alex Huang and Blake Keen each posted a score of 71 for the round to give North Texas under-par totals for all four counting scores. Huang followed up on his first-round 70 to position himself just outside the top 10 with one round to play.
Kalle Svederman, playing as an individual this tournament, recorded a bogey-free back nine to start off his round. The senior transfer finished with a round of 70 to put himself in a tie for 34th at 1-under par.
Fellow Central Arkansas transfer Noah Blaickner shot a 72 in the second round, six strokes better than his first-round total, and sits in a tie for 75th place.
After improving upon Sunday’s score by 16 strokes, the Mean Green will enter Tuesday’s final round sitting in 11th place. Svederman will be the first to tee off in the third round at 8 a.m. CT Tuesday morning, followed by the rest of the Mean Green from 10 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.
