All right, guys. In today’s video, I’m going to show you something I just did with two of my back-toback recent lessons that totally improved their ball striking literally within like 15 or 20 minutes. They have the same issue, but on different ends of the spectrum. And what I’m talking about, we need to be able to do to strike the ball consistently well, is all about the trail arm motion through the ball in the down swing. We’re going to show you a bunch of different good swings here. And we’re going to see all good ball strikers have the ability to do two things with their trail arm through the golf ball that are so important. Number one, we need to be able to get the trail arm fully straightened. We need to get it fully straightened. And number two is the timing that we do that. And specifically, what I want us to be able to do is get the trail arm fully straightened by 45 pass impact. You’re going to see on the screen a bunch of good ball strikers and how they’re all able to get that trail arm fully straight by about this 45 pass impact. I’m going to give you a couple different drills and feels in today’s video on how to do that. Two or three of them. This is what I believe is going to be the next revolution in golf coaching. I’m so excited to introduce you to the Swing Coach app. It’s something that’s going to maximize your practice time and make you get better so much faster because you have instant feedback on every single swing you make. You literally just take out your phone, set it 8 ft behind you, start swinging, and here’s what it does. Club at takeaway inside by three. It automatically identifies your root issue. It then tells you on a scale of one to 10 how far off you are from neutral and gives you feedback on every single swing you make. And if you don’t know exactly how to fix it or improve it, I’m right there in the app with you talking you through exactly what to feel and how much to do it in every single part of your swing. It’s quite literally like having myself standing behind you on every single swing. not only identifying what your main issue is, not only telling you exactly what you need to work on, but giving you instant feedback swing to swing. If you want to check out the Swing Coach app, we’re going to put a link in the description down below. Go click that. Go take advantage. Let’s improve your golf game. Now, my first student that came in, his issue, he came in, the trail arm did get straight, but it got straight too soon. So, he got the first thing correct. He actually did straighten the arm, but it happened too soon. And when it happens too soon back here, you can see we’re going to have some contact issues, right? Low point back behind the ball. So, he got half the equation right. And then my very next lesson came in and he never straightened the trail arm at all. Right? So, the trail arm stayed bent the whole time. He never even got it straight. So, both of them I taught the same thing, which is how do we get this trail arm 45° straight past impact? And this is what I want you to do along with me here. I want you to take a club, something like a nine or an eight iron, in your trail hand only, and I want you to get the club and your hands about to the point where they’re maybe like thigh high, right? So the club head is maybe hip high, my hands are just below hip. And your trail arm at this point, if you hold your arm straight out, this is like 180 degrees. If I bend it to 90 here, I want you about halfway in between that, not fully straight, 180, not 90, about halfway in between, right? Like 135. So halfway in between straight and 90 trail wrist is fully bent back. Now here’s the key. What I we need to be able to do this. I want you to be able to do it. We need to be able to do this is I need to from here be able to take my trail arm and my trail wrist and fully extend those at this 45 pass impact. Now 45 pass impact means if we took the golf ball and the target and we made like a 90° angle, I’m straightening about halfway between those two. For me, the club head points roughly at the end of the mat there. Okay. Now, as we’re doing it, both my students have had them do the same thing. I want you to do this. I need you to be able to hit the mat along the way there. So, notice as I’m doing this here, level one, I’m extending my right arm. Look at Rory punch that right arm through the golf ball, right? We see different ball strikers on there. They’re all doing the same movement. My right arm needs to be the one that extends during the swing. You see Tommy Fleetwood does this really good. The left arm is already like pretty straight, right? More or less pretty straight. It’s the right arm and the right wrists that have to go from being bent back to fully extended, fully extended past impact, right? We know how important it is to get both the arms straight through the ball, but that left arm’s already pretty straight. It’s the right arm throwing that needs to happen. We have to get it fully extended, and we need to get the timing right. So, the first skill to do is to have the arm go from bent to straight by 45 passing back. And you have to be able to hit the ground. If you’re not hitting the ground every time, I want you to stay here. Kind of hip high, trail arm only. Hip high, trail arm only, hitting the ground every single time. Right now, not only is my right arm fully released here, but how about my wrist? That’s also fully released. Meaning my right wrist is flat and my thumbs would point down towards the ground. Arms extended, wrist is released, thumbs down. Now, as I’m doing this, am I doing this with my body pointed at the ball the whole time, or do I have a little pivot going? Everybody together, I have a little pivot going, right? What does that mean, a little pivot going? That means, look at my lower body. Where’s my weight forward on my front leg? Where are my hips pointed? Out towards the target. Where’s my head? Still over the golf ball. Now, both my students after we could demonstrate that with just the trail arm with some pivot, weight forward, hips turned, head back, right? Shoulder down, fully extended out here like this. Not at the ball, not even at the target. Halfway through is the point we’re looking for. Halfway through is the point we’re looking for. Once we can do that trail, like, man, my arm’s a little bit tired there, right? Like, good. Okay, that’s perfect. Let’s put our left hand on. Let’s put our lead hand on. And can we do the same thing with two hands? Remember the arm here, it’s not straight. It’s not 90. Where is it? Halfway between kind of 135, right? Right wrist is where? Fully bent back. Fully bent back. Hands are maybe thigh high. Club head’s maybe hip high. Club face is neutral. Toe on top of the heel. From here, I’m going to take my right arm and I’m going to punch it out to 45. What’s my right arm doing? Punching out to 45. Am I hitting the mat every time? Yes, I am. Right. I’m hitting the mat. My right arm’s releasing. My right wrist is releasing. Remember, my right wrist is fully flat. And also, where my thumbs, not up towards the sky. They’re still down towards the ground. Notice as we’re doing this, we’re pivoting, right? I’ve got probably 90% of my weight on my left leg. My hips push forward and turn. Where’s my head? Back over the ball. Where’s my right shoulder from down the line? Still down, right? That’s the motion that I did with both these players. They hit the ball. so much better. That’s what all the players on your screen are going to do that hit the ball really good. That’s what you need to do as well. Now, the second thing that I showed my students, I think this could be eye opening. It was eye opening for me. If I hold the club kind of tabletop, and we can probably show both angles or certainly the down the line where I have the club in front of me. If I get myself in that same delivery position where the right arm’s, you know, halfway between 90 and straight and left arm straight here. If I bring that up on top here, I just stand up from there. What I want you to realize from the down the line angle is when I say throwing or punching the right arm and wrist, what I’m really trying to do is get the club head away from me. Far away from me. Watch when I do this from this angle. Where’s the club head going? Is that club head going towards me or away from me? Everybody in the comments. Away from me. Right. How is it going away from me? My right arm is straightening. And then what’s happening my wrist? It’s straightening. Now I’m doing that to the point where I’m about even with the ball. Okay. Like this. It’s away from me. Now, if I do that same thing and I turn my body, where’s the club now? 45 past impact. So, what I’m quite literally trying to do is get the club as far away from me as possible through the golf ball by extending my right arm, my my right wrist. But as I’m doing that, I’m turning so that it happens out here. Where is out here? 45 past impact. 45 past impact. Now, when I’m in this position with the right arm at this 135, right wrist bent, is it fully straight and fully released by impact? No. No. No. No. It’s fully released out here. What does that mean? That means that the right arm is straightening through impact. It means that the right wrist is releasing, right? Working from extension forward, but at impact, there’s still a little bit of bend in both. We show a good ball striker here, right? Let’s say the arm at impact might still be like 150 degrees, 180 straight. This is 90 150. The right wrist is still bent back, right? If we show you an impact position. So, they’re not they’re not holding that forever. It’s in the process of straightening and releasing at impact. And it’s fully there by when? 45 pass impact with the body fully turned. Okay. The last or the third drill that I gave both my students, right, drill number one was the trail arm only. Drill number two is kind of the tabletop. Feel it going away from you. And drill number three is really presetting your post impact position. Our friend Craig Hansen, who we’re doing golf schools with in September, does a lot a lot of this and I love it. Basically what this is is you take your setup. I show both my students. I say, “Hey, let’s go from here into that 45 degree position without any back swing momentum.” Like what does it just feel like to pose from here into that position where my right arm’s fully straight, my wrist is fully released, thumbs are down, and I have the body motions. Where are my body motions here? Right. So, pick the club up, my weight’s on my left 80 to 90%, my hips are turned, head back, shoulder down. I want to be able to pose that position, feel what that feels like, take my setup, and then hit a shot trying to get back through that same spot. All right, guys. Hopefully those things help you like they did my students. Really one of the non-negotiables in the swing, being able to get that trail arm punched forward. Give those different drills a try. Use them a lot. I love those. If you want more feedback on your swing, you got to try the Swing Coach app. We’re going to put a link in here and a QR code. You get a two-eek free trial. It’s literally like me standing behind you on every single swing telling you what you did right, what you did wrong, where you did it, how much you need to change. Like imagine having me stand behind you on every single swing you make, right? I have to charge you an arm and a leg for that. But the app is less than $15. Can you believe that when I say that out loud? You get to try it for free. It’s expert level feedback with next level video feedback, voice feedback. It’s absolutely incredible. If you haven’t checked it out, click that link down below. Try that for free. I’m telling you, feedback is going to be the thing that bridges the gap between you watching these videos and be able to do it when you’re practicing by yourself. Can’t recommend that highly enough. Thank you guys for watching.

Awesome drill!
"Android" version of Swing Coach App please!!
In the professional examples, at this 45 degree position and up to right arm parallel to the ground in the through swing, you see the left hand appearing underneath/behind the trail hand. I’d love to see something explaining the hands and wrists from this 45 degree position through the finish. I feel like you see that almost universally in pros but it is rarely explained.
Nice drill, like the focus on the right elbow during impact and follow through. Should make for more consistent ball striking ❤️🔥
Amazing video as always. You know it's bad when your wife recognizes your voice playing through my office doors 😆
Swing coach app is awesome thanks!
Great Lesson , thank you.
