Billy Horchel is officially back. Nearly three months after undergoing hip surgery, the 2014 FedEx Cup champion has confirmed his competitive return. And it won’t be on the PGA Tour. Instead, the 38-year-old will make his long-awaited comeback at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour, taking place September 11th to 14th at Wentworth Club. The announcement came late Thursday when Horchel posted a short but telling update on X. I’m doing a thing at Mupka. That post ended weeks of speculation after he first teased his return on Instagram nearly 2 weeks ago, saying he was targeting a September comeback. His new confirmation means fans will see him back in action for the first time in almost 140 days. His last star came at the RBC Heritage in April. In a video shared last month, Horchel explained why Wentworth was the perfect stage for his return. I think I’ve talked for many years about how special this place is. He said, “Growing up watching it on TV, then finally playing it six, seven plus years ago for the first time, and now to call myself a twotime champion here is surreal. But his comeback comes with a twist.” Horchel revealed that he has resigned his DP World Tour membership for the remainder of the 2025 season since his injury prevented him from meeting the tour’s minimum event requirements. Balancing commitments between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour proved too difficult this year. However, his status as a past champion, winning at Wentworth in 2012 and again in 2024 grants him an exemption to play next week. Importantly, Horchel stressed, “This isn’t a permanent split. I am committed to being a full DP World Tour member in 2026.” Again, I’ve really enjoyed being part of the tour over the last handful of years. The surgery that sidelined him was announced back in May, just before the PGA Championship. health update. After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided to have right hip surgery early next week out in Colorado,” he posted at the time, calling it a preventative measure. Horchel acknowledged the disappointment of missing the summer’s biggest events, including the US Open PGA Championship in the Open. Before the break, his PGA Tour season had been a mixed bag. He recorded five missed cuts in 11 events, but also notched two top 10 finishes at the 2025 Albar Championship and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AAM. His last tournament appearance at the RBC Heritage saw him finish tied for 27th. For Horchel, the BMW PGA Championship represents more than just a return. It’s a chance to reset on a course where he’s tasted success before. With his body rested and his hip healed, fans will be eager to see whether he can find both form and inspiration at Wentworth and begin writing the next chapter of his career.
