MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After 36 holes of competition, the West Virginia University golf team is in first place at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.
The Mountaineers currently stand at 5-under-par with rounds of 285-278 and have a four-shot lead over Texas A&M in the 15-team field. South Carolina is in third place at +2, Louisville is in fourth place at +3 and Miami University is in fifth place at +4.
Ryan Leach, Nick Turowski and Kaleb Wilson lead the way for the Mountaineers and are tied for eighth place at -2. Leach recorded rounds of 68-72, Turowski shot 74-66 and Wilson posted records of 73-67. Harrison Thompson shot 73-73 and is +4, while Jack Michael is +5 after posting rounds of 71-76.
At the Minnesota Golf Classic, Aidan Dortch shot 73-74-71=218 (+2) and finished 14th. Westy McCabe placed 17th with rounds of 71-7375=219 (+3), Gabe Schmitz finished 45th with rounds of 76-78-71=225 (+9) and Brody Burgess placed 50th with rounds of 80-73-73=226 (+10).
The final round of the Gopher Invitational will take place on Monday morning.
