Septraka will be the only member of team Europe not teeing it up at next week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. The Austrian was handed one of Luke Donald’s captain’s picks earlier this week, securing a return to the Ryder Cup for his second appearance. His absence from the Wentworth entry list, however, had sparked speculation about whether he would be available for Europe’s trip to Beth Paige Black. In 2023, all 12 European players competed at the flagship DP World Tour event, and many expected the same again this year. But Donald quickly put to rest any doubts, explaining that Straa and his wife recently welcomed their first child a few weeks earlier than expected. Yeah, everything is okay. Donald confirmed during the Amgen Irish Open. I don’t think an official announcement has been made, but him and his wife welcomed their baby a few weeks ago prematurely. Everything is going extremely well with their baby. He just doesn’t want to be so far away. I think that’s only fair. Had many conversations with Seap. He’s very motivated. He’s going to continue to work hard on his game. He’ll join us for the practice trip, but that’s the reason why he won’t be in Wentworth. Straa had already skipped the PGA Tours BMW Championship last month for personal reasons before returning a week later to compete in the season ending Tour Championship. His next start is now expected to be in New York when Europe faces the US in golf’s biggest team event. The Austrian was still present virtually from Monday’s team announcement, appearing on a video call alongside fellow teammates John Rom, Shane Lowry, Lud Vabberg, Victor Havland, and Matt Fitzpatrick. Reflecting on his selection, Straus said, “It’s incredible. Just watching those videos gets you really excited. You’d think that making a Ryder Cup would feel like checking something off the list, but it just makes you want to be there even more. I’m really thrilled to be a part of this team.
