Billy Foster admits it will be gut-wrenching to miss the RDER Cup after being such a constant presence in Europe’s team room for more than 30 years. The legendary Caddy, who has carried the bag for icons like Sevy Ballister, Darren Clark, and Lee Westwood in countless Rder Cup battles across the United States, won’t be part of team Europe this time around. His absence comes after Matt Fitzpatrick, his most recent player, decided to split with him before this year’s Masters in Rome. Two years ago, Foster was honored with his own Rder Cup trophy by Captain Luke Donald. The keepsake was engraved with every one of the 16 Ryder Cups he has been involved in since his debut in 1987, a testament to his deep connection to the competition. On Instagram, Foster reflected on his bittersweet situation. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be at the RDER Cup this year as part of team Europe, but having done 16 of them, there are so many unbelievable memories. The proud Yorkshire, who has recently taken up temporary caddy gigs with Colorawa and his old boss Westwood on the Liv Golf Circuit, still hopes to be in New York during Ryder Cup week. He even pitched his services for corporate events at Beth Page State Park. If corporate America is looking for anyone to do Q&As’s or just listen to the dozens of stories from inside the ropes, the grudge matches, the hilarious or heated moments over the years. It would be a pleasure coming to New York, he said. Foster also made it clear that his career is far from finished, signing off with a pointed postcript. For the record, I’m not retired, waiting to bounce back and embrace another challenge. This year, Foster has also spent time in the Sky Sport commentary booth, where fans have been calling for the broadcaster to make his presence permanent. The 2025 Ryder Cup will be staged on the iconic Black Horse at Beth Page State Park from September 26th to 28th.
