The Valparaiso University men’s golf team teed off the 2025-2026 season on Saturday morning by playing the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate, hosted by UNGC at the par-72, 7175-yard Bryan Park Golf Course in Browns Summit, N.C. Inclement weather hit in the afternoon, causing the postponement of the second round. The teams will now play 36 holes to conclude the tournament on Sunday.
How It Happened
Junior Adam Melliere (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) turned in an even-par round of 72 to lead the lineup on the season’s opening day. He drained five birdies in the round. He finished Day 1 tied for 21st in an 87-player field.
Golfing as an individual, junior Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore. / Tillamook) had the best round of any Beacon. His one-under-71 put him 14th on the player leaderboard thanks in part to a round that was par or better on 16 of the 18 holes.
Freshman Charlie Davenport (Clarendon Hills, Ill. / Benet Academy) had a solid collegiate debut, finishing the round at 73 (+1) to rank second on the team among counting scores and within the top 30 overall. All three of his birdies came on the back nine.
Also making his Valpo debut, redshirt junior Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario / Aurora) was third in the lineup at 74 (+1), highlighted by a 35 on the front nine. He had five birdies in the round.
As a team, Valpo finished the day at +7, eighth of 14 on the leaderboard. Wake Forest holds the tournament lead at -9, while Wofford’s Ben Jordan holds the top spot on the player leaderboard at -7.
