MAPLE PLAINE, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s golf team is competing in the Minnesota Golf Classic this weekend. The Gusties stand in 12th place after the opening day of competition.
Charles Looker leads the Gusties at +2 through round one, tying him for 37th overall out of the field of 110 golfers.
Jimmy Abdo and Blake Forrest share the second-best Gustavus score through round one at +4, tying them 10 others for 52nd overall.
Chris Gutuza shot +5 in round one, placing him in a 13-player tie for 64th overall.
“As I stood on the putting green before the round today, this was not how I pictured it ending,” said head coach Scott Moe. “We worked really hard preparing for our first event, and when we got into the heat of the competition we went away for our game plan. Pioneer Creek set the hole locations very close to the edge and when you hit shots toward the pins, you are going to be in bad positions and making bogies or worse. We will have better composure on the greens tomorrow and we still have 36 holes left to play some good golf. Nice round today by Charlie on our second team for his first collegiate event.”
Gustavus will compete in the final day of the Minnesota Golf Classic on Sunday, September 7.
