You should be hitting your hybrid the same way you hit your irions. With a hybrid and a fairway wood, because the ball is on the ground, we are still wanting to strike down on the ball. These clubs have center of mass behind them to help get the ball up in the air. It is not like a driver where we are trying to sweep it in the air. You still want to hit down on the ball and that is why they are the same as an iron, but they are more comparable to hitting a longer iron like a four, five, six iron, not like hitting a nine iron. So, I play my hybrids and my fairway woods the exact same. I put them more towards the front of my stance, but not all the way off my lead heel like a driver. They are more further back, somewhere in between that lead heel and the center of my stance. For me, it’s about there. So, it’s really not that far forward of center. From here, it is the exact same swing as what you would do a long iron. There is no difference. The club will do the work because of its soul and because of its larger head. It will interact with the turf and it will get the ball in the air. Keep it simple. Stop thinking you have to sweep it like you would a driver. Treat it like an iron.
