COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County staff evaluated the course Sept. 4 for any problem areas and assessed its overall status for additional play.
Staff has confirmed that the front nine is holding up well and will be making a slight adjustment to the schedule.
Based on the golf course project management team’s evaluation of the golf course, the Los Alamos County Golf Course has announced a new schedule.
Beginning Sept. 24:
An additional day for play – The golf course will open at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, and all day Thursdays through Sundays.
Full course opening – All 18 holes of the golf course will be available for play. The days and hours of play will start on Wednesday at 3 p.m. through Sunday.
Staff still believe that it is beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days and allow for the specialized work required to continue the grow-in phase. Please note that certain areas of the golf course may be inaccessible.
The practice range, main putting green, and short-game practice area are open 7 days a week. These areas are available to golfers for practice. Range balls are available from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The practice range closes at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays to prep the range for mowing on Mondays.
Golfers can rent a new electronic golf car while playing the course. However, please be aware that certain areas on the golf course are geo-fenced off. If you are using a golf car and enter a geo-fenced area, it will alert you, and the GPS screen will display a message informing you to reverse out of the restricted area. If you do not leave the area, the golf car will shut down.
The end-of-season closure has yet to be finalized; however, it is planned that the 2026 spring opening will have the same, if not similar, schedule, with expanded availability moving into late spring and early summer, based on course conditions and management team evaluations. Additionally, our golf course renovation contractor, Mid America Golf, will be completing some warranty work at our golf course in April and May 2026.
Cottonwood on the Greens is open for “Golfer Hours” from 8-11 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is also open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Please visit them for lunch, dinner, or a snack inside or on the patio.
The County appreciates the community’s support and patience as it continues the grow-in and warranty work at the golf course. The work required will support and prepare the course for another 75 years of community use.
