RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – You might not think a golf tournament would have anything to do with predatory birds like hawks, eagles, and owls. Friday afternoon, 13 teams competed in the Birdies Fore Raptors tournament at Rapid City’s Executive Golf Course to raise money for the Black Hills Raptor Center.
Specifically, the tournament will help the raptor center pay for their new treatment building.
“Every penny that we raise tonight at the golf tournament will help us finish this structure and make it possible for us to get a rehabilitation permit for injured birds of prey,” Black Hills Raptor Center Executive Director Maggie Engler said.
Engler says raptors are more than just cool animals to see in the wild, they’re a critical part of the ecosystem.
“The vast majority of raptor species around the world eat animals that would eat our food crops,” Engler explained.
If you’d like to donate to the Black Hills Raptor Center, you can do so on their website.
