[Music] Hey guys, earlier this year you may have seen Tommy and I go head-to-head at the Beth Page Red Course. Well, thanks to our friends at DP World, a worldwide partner of the RDER Cup, we are here on the black course today for a rematch. Yes, we are. Last time we played, I started five under against you and I was able to barely hold on and beat you. Yeah, no, you were too strong for me. You were too strong, some would say. But today you’re going to be starting three down with a couple holes to play. How do you feel heading into this? Well, I like my shot at revenge, just don’t like my odds. Since 1985, in all the matches in the RD Cup, there’s only one player that has come back from three down five to play. So, um, do you believe in miracles? Yeah, I I do, but I feel like today I got a lot to lose. Not much to gain cuz if I beat you, it’s like it’s expected. And if I don’t worry about that, don’t worry about that. One shot at a time. Yeah, I’m ready. You are the away team. So, in true RDER Cup tradition, you get the honors here. Thank you very much. You going with a nine iron here? No, I’ve got an eight. I do too. I’ve been there for three years. Um, it’s do you know like for for golf and definitely for the DP World Tour, it’s an amazing place to uh to be based uh traveling all over the world. Amazing place to travel out of. Weather’s great. Um, and you have your academy there and we have the uh Tommy Fleetwood Academy there. Yeah. So um two year just over two years ago now two and a half years ago uh we partnered up DP Worlds uh partnered up with us and we launched our academy at Jira Golf Estates and just like you know for for me like I you know I love golf and I think that there’s so many different sides to it. I’ve lived at the elite end of the game, right, all my life. But I also think that golf and the skills you learn helps you in whatever you do. And I think just like being part of growing the game in whatever form that is Yeah. is like really important. So I’ve been uh I’ve been really lucky really with the move, partnering up with DP World and the initiatives that we’ve had so far. Um it’s all been great. So uh very very lucky. I hope you’re I hope you have a great lie. I really do. Very sporting. Yeah, it’s funny. I When I first saw you on TV, um little kid just getting into golf. I remember watching you on the DP World Tour. I feel old now. Yeah. Yeah. I was still actually in my diapers. I was watching you and uh you played a lot on that tour. Well, yeah. I mean, that’s the tour that I grew up on and the tour that I grew up watching really. I got um my first year as a pro, my first full year, I was on the challenge tour. Okay. Um and then I got my DP World Tour card from there and that was in 201 12 and then I’ve, you know, played the DP World Tour ever since. But my first few years, uh as a pro, I had a full card there, traveled the world playing the DP World Tour and you know, I’m from there. So that I would obviously have to claim that that’s my home tour and I I think DP World have been great for for that tour. Um supporting the game I think can always you know they come up with some great ideas and constantly supporting trying to we’re trying to make the professional game as well as approachable as possible and I think I think they’ve been a they’ve been a really strong part of that. Yeah. And I would say doing what I do, not to cut you off, but doing what I do for a living, just YouTube golf. I I see the DP World Tours YouTube channel. And they’re they do it so well. Like they their content is actually amazing, isn’t it? They have such a great team. Yeah, they crush it. And so it is cool to see them growing the game that way. But hey, we got bigger problems right now on our hands. We’re in the rough. Uh both in the rough at Beth Page Black. I could see my ball. Yeah. Well, you told mine to you told mine to disappear and it did. Yeah, I did. I wish my ball listened to me as much as your ball did there. But guys, they are currently building the grand stands. This is going to be a huge grand stand right here. Just don’t see me getting like a five iron up there. So, I think it’s just a little choppy one. What they’ve been feeding this stuff pretty strong. Oh, go. It’s good effort. It’s got to go. Very good effort. But that doesn’t look great to me. That is some thick stuff. I’ll tell you, to get out of this rough, you need some strength when it’s wet like this. And that will motivate me to maybe go to the gym one day. Right there. I mean, yeah. It’s just a hard It’s like you got to hit it really good. It feels cuz a lot of the times when So, when we play a tour course or a major course, if you were to play it regularly, it’s a it’s normally a lot easier. that the conditions are a bit softer or but I mean this place is is definitely less severe than 2019 but still just seems so hard. I mean like they grew the rough out more, right? Grinding for PS and bogeies. Yeah. Oh yeah. But I mean you hit it so straight. That’s a huge advantage if you’re in the fairway. Fairways make a huge difference, don’t they? Yeah, they just do. Like even the green the greens here. Forgot how severe the greens are. Great hole. Okay, got the honor back, Grant. All right, three with three. Here we go. Better keep that honor. See if I can put a ball in the fairway and just apply some pressure a little bit. Just got to keep you out on the golf course. So, we live um on Jamira Golf State. So, where they play the last event of the year? Okay. Uh, so that’s where we that’s I remember Rory used to have that when he was young. Like I vividly remember him wearing that. That’s a good looking golf hole. It’s one of those holes that you just want to hit a good shot off. Yeah. Oh yeah. It’s like you get too excited before. Jeez. Stay. He’s going to hit the mower line. So good at golf. Great swing. So you just want to wait a good shot off that hole. Yep. I have a big issue with my shadow though when it’s right there. That’s a bad one. Yeah, that’s a bad shadow. I like that. I hate cuz my head moves. I hate it. Yeah. I hate it when it’s on my head. So, you think about that, too? Oh, yeah. I thought I was the only one. End up not looking at the ball and looking at my head. Yeah. I might close my eyes here. Yeah. Fairway finder gets my angle of attack down right there. Do you know when like I do that all the time and I hit a shot and I’m like, why don’t I just do that all the time? I know. And then But then you do that too much though and it like it wears off, you know, just like anything. So, we’ve seen the fairways have been pretty tight. They have been tight. So, for you going into this Ryder Cup, is it like are you going to really try and rely on accuracy? Is that something? I mean, it looks that way. I think you have to look and analyze a golf course and see what skills and strategy you need. So, Beth Page Black, it’s one of the toughest courses that will play for so many reasons. So, I think, you know, first of all, it’s trying to hit the fair, it’s having a shot that’s going to hit the fairway, right? So, um, you know, being able to put the ball in play, but then having like real precision with your iron shots cuz I’ve had some quick puts today. You can get the wrong side, you can miss it in the wrong spot. So, um, you have to look at that and I I just think it requires like so far looking at it, holes have shaped different ways, greens have sloped differently. So, you need like different start lines, different shapes, different shots. And I think that it’s just one of those there’s certain golf courses around the world that need every facet of the game, right? So I think it I I do actually think like playing golf courses like this really drives you to like be a master of your craft and like really work on every aspect and knowing that you need so many different things to actually be successful around here. Do you get really fired up heading into the RDER Cup? Is that something like is that one of your favorite events? Yeah, it’s um like I feel so lucky to have played three. Like once you’ve played I remember my first one in Paris, it was such a goal to make it and then once you’ve been once you kind of never want to miss one again, but like um like just being the best teammate you can be, like being part of that, soaking up the atmosphere. It’s just been some unbelievable Radical Cup moments over the years and like you just dream of being a part of that stuff. Oh yeah. And I mean what was your favorite so far? What moment in the RDER Cup is there one that like you like you were a part of maybe you hit a shot maybe you made a putt I guess the 16th in Rome in the singles when like I was the one that was lucky to have had the winning moment of the RDER Cup. So like I just happened to be right place at the right time and then I hit probably one of my most memorable shots ever like no matter what I do. So right uh that always stands out. Do you know you know people always when you do like Q&A and stuff like a lot of people always ask what’s the best shot you’ve ever hit? Yeah. I can never think of one. Like I never like I I think about it and then I’m like, “Oh, well that’s a good answer now.” Like I can say that one. So yeah, that’s interesting. Actually going to choke down on this one. Oh, down. I came out hot. He looks okay. Okay. Looks fine. Okay. Came out with some steam. Dude, just go in, Grant. That is so different. Gosh, Tommy, there’s no reactions from anyone, so who knows? I mean yeah I mean we have we have a great bunch of guys. I mean even even the year so like I played three and even at Wilson Straits like I you know believed in us there. I thought we were going to win and we got smashed. But um look, I you know, I’m looking forward to going there as a team, being around all the guys again. And I know that, uh from top to bottom, from Luke to everybody behind the scenes that um team Europe are doing everything they possibly can uh to bring that Ryder Cup back, but it’s going to be an amazingly tough task. America are so strong. Home venue, home crowd. Uh it’s just going to be, you know, amazing to be a part of it. You’re such a nice guy. It’s so hard to root against you. It really is.
