YouTube deleted this video several months ago, and we’re just now getting it edited and back up, so it’s actually a “repost.” As I went through and edited out all the “horrific” Terms of Service violations, I also noticed I was particularly long-winded in this video, which was the only REAL violation. 🙂 Wow, was I even worse than I am now. Sorry about that. At least I’ve gotten a little better control of my excessive rambling.

hi we had to go back and do a little editing before we could post this video and we want to thank the people that make all this possible silencer Central they focus on one task making high quality suppressors you see the banished line up here on our shooting table quite often Davidson’s Gallery of Guns where you get a guaranteed lifetime replacement on every firearm the Sonoran Desert Institute with curriculum in farms technology Gunsmithing drone technology go to sdi.edu and then Alabama holster my favorite little kidex concealment holsters I love them and been using them for a long time check them out now enjoy the video that’s an order empty yes let’s talk about a couple of 45s that are empty and uh they’re similar actually so what we’re going to do is talk about how they’re similar how they’re different and you can see the uh the topic $500 1911 versus $3,000 1911 what is the difference we did a little of this with some uh single actions and things and oh man with 1911s It’s a Jungle isn’t it it it really is and uh we thought we would compare it and it’s kind of a representative of the I’ll say the lower end the less expensive 1911s you arms core The Rock Island which is arms core I guess I mean there’s lots of them in that category that are four5 $600 depending on what’s on them okay and so it’s just kind of a an example of that so we’ll talk about this gun but it’s it’s representing that class of firearms now this one is uh an Ed Brown and it’s called the Special Forces I just U you know me I’m a wannabe Soldier now was just kind of random that I ended up with that one uh got that one was a back in the t& days they sent that out and then I uh was going to send it back I said by the way what do you want for it and they gave me a discount on it and oh man you know I didn’t really sit out to buy an Ed Brown I got the other Ed Brown the Cobra carry because it was used I got a good price on it from a gun shop and but you know the price they quoted me on it I thought wow you know I could I can barely I could almost could get a cult for that well I could but you know with a little bit more so I I bought it that’s why I have this specific one so I don’t go around buying $3,000 1911s myself but I just sort of ended up with a couple okay now when I say 3,000 that’s kind of the topic that’s a ballpark the 500’s a ballpark the 3000’s a ballpark but you know if you know anything about custom 1911s they you know 2500 33500 look at the Wilson Combat uh website uh Nighthawk uh Les bear uh and there people always throw in other ones some I’m not even familiar with um Dan Wesson is not quite that expensive generally but they make a really nice one it’s not I guess maybe considered as custom as these other four uh people mentioned Jesse James you know and I think of Outlaws in the wild west but uh I’m not familiar with with his their firearms really but there there’re other custom 1911 makers I guess so excuse me for always throwing out those same four all the time time okay just more familiar with them you know kind of I’m old school I guess so this is kind of Representative of those of all of them okay so I’m just going to talk about that for especially newer Shooters now if you’re really experienced with 1911s I’m probably not telling you anything other than just giving you my impression and but if you’re not all that experienced with them and you’re thinking about one and maybe you’re going to do well to even afford a $500 one but maybe you have the resources you could buy a $3,000 one or a20 $500 one or $2,000 one and you’re still not sure whether to do that or not it’s like AKs you know it’s a jungle trying to figure out which is the best AK you know I get a lot of questions about those too and a lot about 1911s this is kind of a major FAQ I guess uh video so uh bottom line is it kind of depends on what you want uh I’ll give you the punchline up front in a lot of ways these inexpensive 1911s tend to work especially the Rock Island Armory and I’ve read a lot on them I’ve had a lot of experience with all these firearms and and as I always do if it’s anything complicated at all for my brain I prow around the forums and see what people are saying about them I’ll even print some of it out and read I I just I just like to get a good feel for what the current uh opinions are of people people who seem sensible okay you know there’s a lot of stupid stuff on the internet they really had the news flash there stupid stuff on the internet right you see it in our comments you see it on you know forums and everywhere of course but a lot of people AR quite sensible most of the real sensible people don’t even comment as often you know now I mean not that if you comment you’re not sensible but I mean you see a lot of intelligent comments on our videos people even comment about that fact that it’s a civilized place to participate um but uh you don’t see a lot of the stupid stuff that gets filtered out but um there’s some bizarre crazy you know folks out there of course but you can tell if someone seems to know what they’re talking about and and even they might be off base you know but but you get a feel for what people are experiencing with these guns with these guns and and all guns you know if you study it and read and get around enough on the internet you really do and and ask people in gun shops gun shows and everywhere else people you respect that that know what they’re talking about and The Rock onor Armory uh the consensus on it is they’re good guns these guns made in the Philippines are good guns The Rock Island Armory uh has served a lot of people well I saw several comments as I was doing research of people I got you know 20,000 rounds through mine no trouble and all that kind of thing well they might have forgotten a few malfunctions but but by and large they work okay they work if you don’t have the resources for a $2,000 $3,000 uh firearm uh don’t feel like oh I can’t get a real gun but I’ll get me a Rock Island armor I guess or one of the Turkish 1911s or any of the others uh you know Ruger makes some that are not that expensive you know I’ll just get me a cheap one make do with it I’ll feel bad about every time I pull it out at the range and know it’s not like that not at all hey anytime you’re paying three four five $600 for a firearm that’s not exactly junk there are people on the planet as you know and in this country they can’t afford to buy $150 gun or barely can okay so so we don’t want to really classify these as cheap guns $500 is not cheap don’t know about you but I’ve never considered that cheap for anything so that said there is a difference but it’s not necessarily gigantic I think I talked about that in the other video with single actions you know it it sometimes if something is just a little better it might cost a lot more because the hand workk in it I saw a posting you all may have seen it somebody was uh he may not know what he’s talking about but he said he had read somewhere he thought he had his memory correct that the Colt Python we all know that’s a beautiful firearm we all know they were expensive even back in the 70s I bought a couple of them back then they were more expensive than other firearms that he had read that uh there were 10 hours worth of like polishing to get that finish on the python I guess the blued ones or whatever but 10 hours and that’s with someone who is is uh probably a master gunsmith or polisher or whatever making a a high wage you know so 10 hours uh it just takes more more man hours woman hours human hours to do some of those things that we we we don’t you know we can’t fully appreciate maybe sometimes okay so that’s a big difference the the better fit the better finish maybe uh you know just something simple as that front strap Checker ring you know like on this this gun uh the rounded melted uh edges on it that kind of thing uh you know it just it just takes more but mainly it’s the fit and the finish on on these guns that that really drive up the cost and then in addition uh maybe a little bit better steel now I’m going to talk in generalities oh my gosh it’s hard to to know and pin down what’s what on these things generally speaking I think and I’m going to ask you all that that know to to share uh your your knowledge if you know for a fact uh some of this and can not necessarily correct me but just to elaborate on it well correct me too if I need it from my reading it seems seems that one generalization you can make is that most on the less expensive 1911s a lot of these are made overseas somewhere turkey or Philippines or somewhere uh the frames are cast all right whereas on the more expensive ones the frames are more likely to be a forged forged frame just like the slide and I think even the slides are are are uh are forged though on on these guns forged steel okay so the barrel the frame and the slide you know obviously Key Parts and uh you can pretty well count on you know the Wilsons the less Bears of the world The Nighthawks you know the Ed Browns you’re going to have mostly tool steel through the whole firearm although I have read that they do use some MIM Parts you know mold injected uh Parts all right and that’s a whole another can of worms isn’t it because some people say oh that’s fine they work and they don’t break and they tend not to let’s shoot since this one is uh the the less expensive one let’s go ahead and shoot here while we’re kind of yakking uh so this firearm does have more that’s another generalization about firearms in the $500 $600 category four to six let’s say seven I don’t know they’re going to have more Min Parts uh once you get past the frame the slide and the barrel for sure most of it’s probably mold injected Parts okay and uh that can be good it can be bad if if they’re not done right as I understand but but I think as a human species we have kind of uh I don’t know about perfected but we have developed a systems for making those that they tend to be pretty strong so let’s shoot something I just put one on the gong I mean if it’s gong worthy it can’t be all that bad right now the sights are just like black on black so it’s not anything there we go I’m going to try uh Pig up there in the top row little bit low little bit low little bit high I’ll shoot him some more I I have been shooting this firearm uh off and on for whatever 3 4 days and uh it’s done well I’ve not had a malfunction we might have one today all right let’s settle down here we go I even got a buff even got it’s a ram how about a 2 L how about for Kentucky yeah now this thing uh is is nice it’s uh the trigger is not all that bad at all and now I can tell the difference between it and the Ed Brown but it’s not not bad at all it’s a nice break and the reason I requested this specific one was it’s it’s kind of decked out like this at Brown all right you got look at the sights here similar all this has night sights and everything and it’s uh you know it’s got the uh long trigger the flat mainspring housing you got the nice beaver tail you know both of them okay Commander Hammer now the Brown’s got uh you know the stippling up here and that kind of we’re not we’re not saying that they’re the same obviously but this is just kind of representative of the more expensive Firearms but this thing I’m going to shoot it again can I do that uh the M Parts as I was saying you know they uh they could they make them to fit and uh they don’t require in fact I think as I’ve read it’s hard to machine them once you have them made you need to make them the right size some of you folks that are involved in that kind of work can elaborate on that but I think that’s the of course the the beauty of it just like a a CNC machine they they come out the size you want and you don’t have to mess with them a lot in fact I think it is hard to to fit them if you have to do a lot of grinding on them after that they’re not uh suited for that as I understand now where I read that might not have been correct I don’t know I’m not a machinist nice try another two leader or UT yeah slow death hey Cowboy you need a bullet yeah so uh thing shoots well let me go ahead and shoot this real quick what did I do uh now I don’t know did it lock back with a Mag bullet left in the M it might have now one thing I was going to say though let’s put that last one on the cowboy uh these magazines I just brought out my hodge podge unless we have a problem with here’s the Rock Island mag that came with it so we’re not going to be hard on these pistols if they have a malfunction unless they go crazy uh if it’s with one of my mags I know some of these have weak Springs and all that kind of I just grabbed a bunch of them so uh so just keep that in mind all right let’s shoot the uh we’re empty yeah they Brown too here just to remind you it does it shoots just fine Cowboy two L now gong uh let’s see what about the turkey up there what about the Ram oh I see there’s a difference right there that brown doesn’t generate as much uh muzzle energy did you did you believe that yeah that’s why you need uh you need us to keep you straight uh that would have nothing to do with it it’s how that animal is sets what that is so I mean this one you know it’s got a beautiful trigger it’s just just perfect uh it’s got night sights which don’t help necessarily but the thing that helps is it’s got you know the white outline there a little bit where this one’s just black and if it were mine I would paint the front sight or do something there and that would be a lot better but I tell you what you could this pistol you could take to a to a IDPA or a a USPSA match you know today and do just fine with it it uh I mean if if you can do just fine put it that way I’m not let’s just yeah let’s just bang some steel here with it it’s kind of fun to get out the old 1911s again I I don’t shoot them often enough let’s see let me go to holster here this is my old uh uh Gunsite holster I bought that it had to be around 89 or 90 and let’s shoot something saw do falling out of that bowling pin boy we need some bowling pins feels good feels really good oh we got some targets right here we got a paint can that’s about shot now it’s really shot oh whoa John we almost got hit great little gun no doubt about it uh uh you could buy that firearm or one like it one in that category and be perfectly happy you notice we have a uh John has been showing you I think our our usgi pistols out here too cuz I mean technically that falls into a $3,000 category as well or thereabouts or more or less you know and the reason these are expensive is they were actually World War I or World War II uh Firearms actually used in in the you know in battle and uh so you know that’s another way you can spend more on a 1911 and and because of the history the age their Antiques and and all that but then also back then you know one thing I think about is the way the the major custom makers make their guns again Les bear Wilson Combat nigh hog lead Brown and on down the line it’s it’s in some ways it’s like the way those were made you you had uh you know Real Steel all the way through I guess tool steel and had to be fitted and a lot of time involved uh accomplished gunsmiths Master gunsmiths whatever you want to call it okay a lot of words for that but a lot of uh hours put in by people who really know what they’re doing okay and that’s that’s another thing is cool about the you get an old gun like that yeah the biggest the main value to me is fact it’s World War I or World War II it’s so cool but you also want to keep in mind you know it’s made more like these are in terms of the the steel and everything there’s definitely no Min Parts on these old things these old babies they might be a little loose more than you like but so and and of course these custom gun makers they’re not trying to be milspec now this one is milspec I think most of the Rock Island Armory and maybe some of the RS you have to check I don’t know the Turkish guns and various ones their mpec in terms of these parts supposedly are interchangeable with most of the old military guns like those lying there uh that’s not as important to some people once you get into a price category like $2 or $3,000 or more it’s like that with ARs you know lwrc or uh uh what’s a Laro or Daniel Defense maybe I don’t know you can name a lot of the high-end uh AR-15s they don’t care whether they’re mspec or not what the reason they’re so expensive and I and I maybe I’m hope I’m speaking correctly when I mention names like that there’s a lot of they’re really high in AR makers they they are about trying to design a better bolt or maybe a better firing pin or a better you know just so they’re not worry about it you being able to take a part out of a you know a mill spec firearm and put it in their gun and it work is not quite as important okay cuz you’re you’re buying those it’s just a different thing it’s like you’re not buying a Porsche and then mad because you can’t take the carburetor out of your Nissan and put in there you know what I’m saying so uh so what they try to do is just they kind of redesign it in some ways and they don’t worry about it being compatible with every part with a mpec 1911 they they they think they’re making it better okay so but still keeping in the spirit the same same gun and and one thing I was speaking of cars that I was going to point out in some ways it is like vehicles um you know uh either one of these firearms that work just fine put either one in your holster and and you go to a match you could even carry it whatever and it’s going to work for you probably you’re probably not going to have trouble and uh it’s like cars you know you could buy a Porsche or a Mercedes it’ll get you where you want to go but so will Nissan you know or even a cheaper car probably uh and sometimes even a more expensive car and even an expensive uh 1911 it it it can it can uh break on you it can have trouble there’s a lot of moving Parts there so you’re not guaranteed with any piece of Machinery that it’s absolutely going to work you know every time this year next year and 10 years from now you so something could break so so I mean I’m not going to come down and say yeah you don’t want to buy that or you you definitely want this or you definitely don’t want it it is like cars it comes down to kind of your pocketbook your tastes uh largely your pocketbook and whether you can even appreciate the difference whether you even care about the difference like if you’re into other Firearms more so than 1911s but you you wouldn’t mind having one for the collection just to plank around with well you’re in kind of a different category you know any old 1911 that you kind of like is fine isn’t it but if this is your baby you just love of the 1911 and you are willing to put a fair amount of money into one to know you’ve got at least what we kind of think is is the is the best quote unquote the prettiest the best finish maybe the best fit maybe a name you’re proud of on it whether it’s Les bear Wilson Combat or whoever Nighthawk Jesse James uh uh White her name some other Cowboy so you know it all comes kind of down to that and and don’t give people a hard time I see this in comments sometimes with whether it’s single actions or any any gun uh it’s it’s so obvious if I mean I try to avoid this in my life being envious of people because they have a Mercedes or something I can’t afford or something else yeah just because somebody does spend $3 or $4,000 for 1911 you know it’s so obvious when we say we rationalize it oh that’s no better my gun I’m my gun I shoot that one you know it may it might outshoot it but don’t give a person a hard time if they do spend $33,000 you may have buddies that have them and you think they’re crazy but you know they get their their kicks from having an Ed Brown or a Wilson Combat you know just it’s just kind of neat sometimes to own what is considered maybe the best example of something so don’t give them too hard a time uh so you know it kind of gets into like a class Indie sort of thing or something sometimes you you see comments like that they’re both great guns they both work okay and I’m going to shoot them both again cuz this one again I think a part of what uh well we’re not proving it here this is just one sample but I I guess I want to partly just show you that even this uh5 or $600 Rock Island Armory from the Philippines really works pretty well it it’s even effective on uh cinder blocks I think oh nice yeah I put up a new cinder block just for the in honor of the 1911 do I have any more ammo yeah I do I got another one right here let’s go back to the holster here all right I love a 1911 let’s try it plate got him on the last shot uh this one you need to hold up on the target a little bit but uh not a lot uh you can’t take a 6:00 hold I’ve noticed but it’s not a big problem with the sight and it’s doveet tail so you could replace that if you wanted to so so it’s it’s kind of a plain Jane but uh I tell you it come again the point is whether it’s a rock on Armory or or Turkish gun or whatever they are available now with you know the beaver tail the flat main spring housing which most people prefer now long trigger you know this is a configuration that a lot of people like you know that’s why kind of popular with that so you know bottom line is uh these work uh it’s just that when you go in with these really expensive guns you know there’s probably less margin of airor on on something happening tell me if you disagree like I don’t know the frame cracking on you or something some major uh uh breakage okay although you know it’s it’s metal of machine anything could break uh you know the these folks like Wilson Combat I know Ed Brown they’re famous for supplying for making some of the best parts in the industry I know for years I know when I had my first Colt uh modified for competition back in wow in 87 or something thought I would try a little ipsc I think my gunsmith put an Ed Brown beaver tail on it you know I mean and uh like triggers oh yeah it was I think it was an Ed Brown maybe uh trigger and sear and stuff you uh they’ve been making this stuff forever and they have a reputation just for the parts they make and Wilson combat’s the same way and probably the others Les bear you know and uh Nighthawk but uh what’s it what what’s W Wilson Combat bulletproof right they they’re they’re uh they uh extractors and things they’ve got a I think a whole line of of 1911 parts and lot of some of them are called I think I’m right right John bulletproof I think is what they call them you know uh and people in fact we replaced one of John’s 1911s the extractor wasn’t working right and a Colt put a bulletproof extractor in it start working fine you know that kind of thing so you’re not going to find that you know with a well people are ordering uh beaver taals and extractors from from uh the Philippines so they can have a good 1911 that’s probably not the case then correct me if I’m wrong you know so so there is a difference but they both work okay and again uh when I say 3,000 you know we title the video or 500 you know I think this one actually is around six maybe and this one I don’t know Special Forces you know Ed Brown if they still make it it’s in the neighborhood of height 2000s or low 3,000 something like that um but you got all the parts that make these things really comfortable and I haven’t shot this can I shoot this one again got them dirty so I need to shoot this one more more often too pretty nice and now one thing I prefer about this one it doesn’t have that Ambi safety to hit my knuckle just put it in the holster here oh we have a 2 L we have neglected let’s just take him out how about yeah and what about that red plate on the right over there all right I love that sound and the [Music] gong W Sweet Sound I think there’s a MAG left let’s put some on the gong with this thing over there and also let’s try that red plate on the right I you know the people from Ed Brown’s company probably hate me saying I just standing and shooting this things there’s probably no difference in accuracy and practical accuracy for me just shooting around with them now whether I can hit the red plate or not uh one thing that makes it a little harder is uh press check we empty safety is off yeah we’re good uh is I’ve got to hold up on it is the fact that I’ve got this sight that doesn’t have the visibility and the point of aim I have to hold up on about the top of it I think which makes it a little bit harder but other than that I I don’t think uh there’s that much difference at this distance let’s try it watch me miss them all there we go and and the and the misses were really close let’s try the gong okay I was holding too low [Music] Up Click I think or ELO it’s flinching yeah so as far as just banging around shooting in an iPic match or something USPSA whatever you’re doing uh the biggest difference would be your sights the visibility on your sights and and the trigger and the trigger is not that bad at all on the on this this this firearm so again we’re living in great times you can you can walk into a gun show or a gun shop at least in this country and you can walk out with a 1911 that’s combat ready or one that you can do about anything you want to do with it in the neighborhood of $500 or $600 okay so it just depends and of course you got the American maid issue if that bothers you uh this is American made of course you your Wilson’s and everything uh so that’s another issue now I don’t know if I’ve helped you any uh uh at all uh it again it’s kind of like deciding on an AK or something or even an AR uh because there’s such a drastic difference uh in in price between these custom guns now you do realize of course there’s a middle ground and in the middle ground we might slip we could have brought a couple out here cuz that’s most of the 1911s that I’ve had in my life like a Colt okay or a Springfield Armory depending on what it has actually they still make some really basic ones I guess like that are kind of in that category but then they’ve got several that would be in the Middle Ground you know $1,000 12200 or whatever and several other companies too there’s so many companies that make 1911s now and you got them up in the 2000 Range and then on up but when you get up into these four five six companies that are just these are really Custom Guns you are going to be talking 25 3,000 or more so the difference uh I’ve rambled on about about the differences what you get uh it’s neat to own something that that you know is kind of state-of-the-art but you got to pay for it you know and is it worth it that’s a big question uh and that’s that’s up to you just look at uh the house you live in the car you drive the shoes you wear the clothes you buy what else you just go right on down the list the TV you bought the radio you bought you name it the pocket knife you care I mean there’s a wide range of choices in all those categories and it’s based on your income your taste what’s important to you your values uh lots of times all of us buy something that costs more than we really need you know it’s better quality than we really need I guess so so before you give somebody to hard of time for spending 3,000 on a 1911 you know just keep that in mind we all do that probably with something you know whether it’s our shoes or our hearing aids or whatever it might be so uh I feel like I probably left out some some things that I I could have rambled about but I’ve rambled enough and uh if you’re trying to select a 1911 uh you can get a good one you know on that low end you really can the fact that there’s so many expensive ones uh doesn’t mean these are junk just like cars I see a lot of Kia on the road as I understand and they are they’re pretty reasonably priced I don’t know how long they last you know or Hyundai or whatever name you want to brand brand you want to name but there’s a lot of people driving around and uh and they work apparently you know so it’s it’s kind of the same with these and uh that’s just a fact so anyway please if you have experience if you’re a gunsmith uh I we have a wide range of experience in the audience there gunsmith soldiers and competitors just everybody uh let us know what your experience has been with uh with with these things you know with the low winds especially now we all know that these are they’re great guns from the custom gun makers you can have problems with them though certainly can uh they are Machinery as I said but uh maybe uh you know if you’ve had uh you again we’re not uh tied to any gun companies you know if you you uh find a certain Turkish company when we’re talking $5 $600 uh 1911s whichever ones you think are the best you got because you have experience with them or your friends have experience or just whatever or you machine on them you work on them I have heard too that gunsmiths sometimes don’t want to work on a on one of these because it’s because of the cast frame or if you’re a gunsmith you know share what you you know about that uh but but uh yeah if you’ve got experience with with them let us know you know if you’ve had one and of course that’s anecdotal you know that’s just you know anybody could have one that breaks but uh but anyway we’ll get some input from you all hopefully on that the big world of 1911s out there you may hate 1911s I don’t carry 1911 but I like them they’re a lot of fun to shoot and uh a lot of you feel the same way I don’t carry a Single Action Army either cult very often but they’re a lot of fun to shoot so the carry issue is is irrelevant okay what we’re talking about they’re just great Shooters at least so anyway I’m going to quit rambling and I’m glad you all came out today to uh you know kind of think about 1911s and uh this is just a couple of choices there’s a lot of them that would fit in that category a lot of them that would fit in this category so whatever you think let us know but I don’t think a lot it’s really really hard to do takes way too much energy I might blow a fuse so you do some thinking for me share what you know life is good oh yeah that’s better this is a great gun for defense oh hey didn’t see you guys there uh while I’ve got you 1. YouTube deleted this video several months ago, and we're just now getting it edited and back up, so it's actually a "repost." As I went through and edited out all the "horrific" Terms of Service violations, I also noticed I was particularly long-winded in this video, which was the only REAL violation. 🙂 Wow, was I even worse than I am now. Sorry about that. At least I've gotten a little better control of my excessive rambling.
And remember, as I often point out, what a person pays for his toys or tools is not necessarily "smart" or "dumb." Depends on one's income and mission.
A person spending 500 bucks on a gun might be doing the dumb thing if he's using grocery money to buy it and cannot really afford it, whereas, another person who spends 3,000 bucks on a firearm might be letting go of money he'll never miss, a much smaller percentage of his income. Which one of these folks is doing the "dumb" thing?
It all comes down to what percentage of a person's income is being thrown at something, which is what determines the actual cost of something.

  2. I plan to add a 1911 to my collection eventually, just to plink around with. I like the cheaper one, just the looks of it. I like the blck with wood handle and it won't ever be a carry gun for me since I plan to carry something smaller, with higher capacity and.I want to carry a 9mm but a 1911 is a staple I want in my collection along with a few other guns.

  3. I'm tempted to get a RIA. I was going to get an authentic Colt, but those go for at least twice as much, and I'm a very inexperienced shooter. (I've read a whole lot, but my actual hands-on experience is next to nil.)

Word on the net seems to be that RIA is still quality. Their website is super cheesy, though, which doesn't exactly instill confidence. Also, the revolvers they offer range from dirt cheap (and fairly crummy, apparently) to costing almost as much as a Smith, which is inexplicable.

  4. Keep in mind if your using it as a carry gun it will be in police custody possibly for several years before your case is decided.
A $3,000 1911 sure is nice to have if you can afford it, but a 1911 under $800 will get you through the night straight out of the box, plus you can add what ever after market parts to it you like with all the money you saved.

  5. I have a couple Tisas 1911 A1 US Army for sub $400 each and those have no MIM parts and shoots great. If I could afford the $3k 1911 I'd probably buy one as well.

  6. i think when you are talking mold injected parts you might mean sinterd metal . its pretty good but not as good as a thing carved out of a block of steal

  7. My rock island has run better than my ruger 1911 out of the box. The ruger is good now to but took me time to get it to run

  8. I have 3 rock island pistols and I paid less than one Ed Brown. I have the 9mm tac ultra, a 10mm tac ultra and .45 tac FS. They all run great, no problems, fun shooters, accurate. Sights could be better and I have replaced them with fiber optics. Also it would be nice to have them come with more than a single mag, since the double stack mags were hard to find for a while. Great guns!

  9. I got the AEE Girson MC 1911 C 10mm carry and I love it. It's a Turkish firearms and was on the lower end with rock island and it's jammed a couple times or fail to lock back but thats due to the mags. The stock mag has never gave me any problems. But I carry every day with it and love it.and I've put closer to almost 1000 rounds give or take through it

  10. Any accuracy increase with the high $$ firearms will be more than compensated by the shooter's level of skill.

  11. I love my Rock. 1911 FS .45, it's my everyday carry. I bought one in 9mm but I don't like it. I have had several other pistols over the years but the Rock Island just stuck with me.

  12. I just picked up a rock island 1911 45 for $320 the other day because it was on sale at Dunhams in Michigan and it is awesome

  13. springfield garrison 1911. got it used. put almost 200 rounds through it, couple different mags. not one issue with feeding. FMJ ball ammo. Perfect gun. Clean it regularly and put 1 drop of oil on top of the barrel where it shows wear and then it runs like smooth

  14. Nothing wrong with cast frames. I was a metallurgist for an investment casting company and we made frames for Ruger. They were of very high quality and strong enough for their purpose. By the way, we also cast frames for GE Miniguns, which really take a beating. I can see where a low-volume builder is going to CNC machine everything out of billet but if you're making a lot of guns, you'll get the same quality at lower cost from castings.

  15. 1911s were designed at a time when firearms were not just assembled from a bag of parts. They were designed when firearms were all built by hand fitting parts together by skilled craftsmen. Unfortunately many of the less expensive North American brand 1911s are not well made because skilled tradesmen in the US and Canada and the time necessary to hand fit the parts is too costly to be competitive with modern guns designed for cheap mass production and guns built with overseas labor. Fortunately due to global economics the wages in the Philippines and Turkey are extremely low in US dollars so it is profitable to pay a competitive wage to a skilled craftsman to hand fit a 1911 there. I'd personally trust an out of the box Tisas or RIA over a Para, Kimber, Ruger, SIG, lower end Springfield, etc., 1911.

Springfield Custom Shop, Ed Brown, Les Baer, etc., are quality hand fit guns, but they aren't cheap. Dan Wesson is probably the cheapest American 1911 I'd trust out of the box.

  16. I have the Girsan mc 1911 it's been reliable an accurate for 5 or 6 years.ive had the colt ,rock island, all were great guns

  17. The Rock Island is RELIABLE, CNC precision made, good steel and the production techs that do the final fitting are really good at what they do. RIA has an extruded slide and an investment cast frame made out of 4140 QUALITY steel. You're not going to crack your RIA Frame or slide or wear out your MIM parts. It's a shooter and a good one. Armscor has been making quality firearms since the early 1900's. I am not a fan of the Turkish guns, but I won't get into that here. Filipinos are 1911 aficionados and know how to produce a quality 1911 with modern machinery and steel formulation. Turkish gun manufacturers not so much IMO. I trust my RIA 100% to protect my life and have a lot of range time on one in original 1911 configuration. Their TAC Ultra is NOT a 2011 and is more of a Para copy using Para style magazines. Reliable but mags are harder to get, and I've never been a fan of double stack 1911's or Para. If you get the Mil Spec RIA 1911A1 get a Wilson flat recoil spring and an extra power Wolff firing pin spring since the inertia firing pin has no block – it's more true to the original pattern. Look up "Armscor Factory Tour" on YT and see the modern production.

  18. I can afford a $3000 firearm… would I buy one… heck no. Picking up my RIA 45 ACP with G10 grips and skeletonized hammer and trigger with cerakote gun metal grey finish for $600 in 4 days.

  19. I have owned my RIA 1911 45acp government model for almost 25 years. And I put over 3K rounds of hardball ammo thru it without a problem. I would rather spend my money on ammo and practice with it then spend money on a fancy pistol. I did put Triton sights on it and polished the feed ramp, and a match bushing. When I do my part it will always keep them in the black.

  20. I can’t say enough how much I appreciate you sir,I am almost 50 and all of the men in my family except for my dad,”thank god” have passed, very important men, uncles, grandfathers, great grandfathers, and listening to you reminds me so so much of listening to them back in the great old days, the advice you give, your views on most things ,it’s just really great to be able to come and see you whenever i feel the need to be around a great one!

  21. I love my Citadel 1911 I bought in 2009 or so for 320. It's also an Armscor 1911 made at the same place as the Rock Island 1911, and I have had no real problems with it.

  22. My everyday carry is an Armscor/Rock Island GI Commander in .45ACP, and I'm completely confident that it'll do the job, when or if necessary.

  23. A note on modifing a Armscor/RIA 1911. Some modifications on their pistols can nullify the lifetime warranty if performed by an independent gunsmith.
If you wish to avoid nullifying your warranty, you can contact Armscor for a list of gunsmiths that are authorized to work on their pistols & maintain your lifetime warranty.
    Just putting that out there.
