Hey guys, Johnny Thompson here at the Elie
Callaway Performance Center. We got the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, Mr. Justin
Herbert here. He’s gonna hit some bumps, try not to break a few anything. We’ll
see how it goes. No promises. No, we’re excited to have them. We’re
going to be testing out the new 2025 Elite line of woods. We got a lot
of work to do. I’m excited. Let’s go. So when healthy off season, how much golf in a normal offseason? I mean, we got a bunch
of guys on the team and we’ll finish practice and end it like one or two and then then we’ll
go golf. That’s intense. And so it’d be there are times where we’ve played maybe, you know, 20
25 times a year in a in a couple months and then when you get to football season, you don’t get
to play at all. That’s why I’m kind of thankful that you know my dad and my brothers like we
kind of just grew up playing and something you kind of take for granted. Who’s the best
brother in the house? My older brother was, but I don’t think he’s played in uh 3 or 4 years.
Yeah. So, well, hope hopefully after this fitting, it’ll be a it’ll be an absolute I am the best in
the house. All right. So, this new Elite driver, the idea would be if we can get you down and
spin a little bit, but not sacrifice control. And hopefully if anything like also bring in some
things that could help add to control your overall driving would it would improve just you’d hit
it further and if we can keep it straighter if not tighter then yeah why wouldn’t you you’re not
losing anybody. So first thing I’m going to have you hit is the same you’re in the triple diamond
AI smoke we’re going to go triple diamond in the elite and the big difference this year from uh
headto head the shape is pretty much the same. the footprint. It’s been our most popular
tour driver since we came out with it. So, the shape hasn’t changed a ton. Yeah. Over the
years because that’s what guys love. Um, but we’ve put a ton of tech into the face. So, a lot more
control if you go, you know, toe side, heel side, low, high. It’s a lot more stable and spin. So,
you don’t see like you hit one that’s like 3900, then you hit one that’s like 2,000. Like, it helps
bring that that in. So, it makes it a little bit easier to to predict. And then also we’ve added
some more carbon into the crown so it just lightens it up and then we get to use that extra
weight that we saved from the the body and put in places that make drivers more forgiving. Was
looking at the shaft that you were fit into last time it does I mean that’s a it’s a good shaft for
you. Yeah. And and if we need to we can go we can look at other stuff but I will say like the way
that you deliver the golf club it kind of matches that bucket of shafts where you know a little
bit softer in the handle but very very stiff throughout. So it can handle handle your speed
but not feel like a rebar. Yeah. In your hands. One of the last smokes you hit with kind
of comparable ball flights. It was like just under 4,000 spin. That was like 3,700.
So we’ll just kind of see after if after if after if after we hit a few of them, okay, how
they compare to to similar shots with smoke. Well, that was nice. Thank you. Okay, I made a little bit of change here on the
on the sole weights. So, a little bit more weight forward. I just want to see how low that spin can
go. Okay, there’s some things that can happen when you when you make that change that might not work
for us. And they and they might, but I just want to really look at spin and just see how much
lower it can go with that heavy weight forward. Okay, 3,000 on that little bit of a push fade. See you square one up here and we’ll
uh Moment of truth. I’m trying. Nice. Really good. What was that one at?
3,000. And that’s that’s still high. Well, so spin is you hear people talk about spin a lot
and like you’ll hear long drives like, “Oh, I want to spin at 1,800 cuz they’re trying to maximize
distance.” But the the other aspect of that is launch angle. Yeah. So if you’re launching it like
that last one launched at 86. So think of it like a sliding scale. If like your launch is super low,
you have to be at the higher end of spin to keep the air or keep the ball in the air as long as
it can to maximize carry and and run out. So, if you’re if you’re going to launch it between and
you’ve hit some that are like 7 to 9, like you’re going to live in that high 2000s to 30,000 for
spin to maximize carry and total. So, right like that one right there, 8 6 and 3,000 is matched up
pretty good. Okay. Yeah. I’m going to make We’re going to try something new because we got a driver
this year, too. You talked about forgiveness and are like trying to be more accurate. You’re never
going to be short on speed. that’s built into your to your game. Um, this year the new Elite driver,
complete redesign on the shape. Still have that same 10x face when we talked about spin control.
Um, this head rivals ball speed now with triple diamond. So there’s no like you’re not giving up
speed for forgiveness. You kind of have a second option that is just as fast but that much more
forgiving. So then why how come people would go triple diamond over that one then? So there
is a a a huge importance on look on the on the Tour Golf. They kind of like something that
looks more compact. Um but with that being said, I mean the Triple Diamond is incredibly high MOI
for that shape of a head. So it’s very forgiving. Um, we’ve had people that were uh like Eric
Vanroyan is great player, South African uh great player, been triple diamond for the
last two, three years and he’s now in this head because he didn’t lose any ball speed and he saw
a noticeable difference in his dispersion on ones. So, we’ll start in the same setting. And what
we’ll pay attention to is if the spin can stay, you know, relatively around those same
numbers. And then we’ll start to pay attention to like that rightness. Like
how far right is it going? If you see if we can shrink that circle. This one’s
got a good look to it. Yeah, it’s I mean, it’s obviously the best driver in our lineup
because I use it. So, Oh, yeah. Well, yeah. Duh. Yeah, baby. Yeah, but I like it. It’s good flight
there. About 3100 on the spin. So, this one, if we get the spin kind of similar to where you’ve
been, what I want you to do is hit like three or four and just kind of pay attention to like how
it felt at impact, you look up. Is it as far off line as you thought it was going to be? Because I
think we should see a shrinking in the dispersion. about 3,400 on that one. But again, like it’s not
curving as much. And you hit three that kind of lay right around that same circle. But we’re
going to make another change. So the other cool thing about this driver is this adjustable
perimeter waiting. Yeah. So right now it’s set at neutral. If we have we’re seeing like
a little bit more right bias. Pretty easy. We can change the CG of the driver by moving
this over heel side. Ask which way. Yeah. Uh, I felt with that one two shots ago, I felt like I
mis hit it. Yeah. And it did not nearly go Yeah. as far right. Yeah. I was like, “Oh, I mean,
that’s still it’s a game of misses, you know, like if you center punch any of our drivers in
any of the lineup, you’re going to be like, “Oh, this thing’s awesome.” But it’s that one that you
hit that you’re like, “Oh gosh.” And you look up and you’re like, “Oh, that’s way closer to the
where I was intending to hit it than I thought.” That’s that’s what you want. You just want the
bad ones to be less bad. Yeah. All right. So, move that over into the draw setting. Just want to
see if we can eliminate a little bit of that leak, right? And then it should if you do that, it
should the spin should come down naturally, too. There’s 2,800 on that one. So, it’s it’s not
like a cut, it’s just it’s a little push, but you didn’t have like a lot of cut spin
on that one. That was like 2,800. And again, if you’re launching it at, you know, that got up
to like 11, um, that would be a little on the high side, but if we’re more concerned, less concerned
about being the longest driver in golf, but being more a more accurate, like let’s get rid of these
OB balls that kill the hole from the start. Um, you’re in a pretty good place with that Elite
cuz it’s definitely not curving as much. Yeah, that this one feels This one feels great. All
right, one more. I want to see you hit a see you hit a draw. And the the problem too is like I
I don’t play enough golf that my setup is probably not always the same. Yeah. I try I don’t even know
if I’m set up properly or or whatnot. And yeah, I mean that’s where come from that’s sort
of like the discipline of like you go if you do get a chance to go hit balls like lay lay
down a couple clubs or some alignment sticks like that’s if you’re not playing golf all
the time like just those little things can have such a huge effect cuz if you if you
think you’re aimed here and everything’s going this way but you’re conscientiously
you’re thinking I got to hit it over here it’s going to whack your golf swing out and
it’s like throwing a football without like I probably have the same footwork on you know
all these routes. And if I don’t think about it or I just like line up my feet wherever,
yeah, I’m going to like your motion’s good, but like your lines are messed up, so the ball’s
not going to go where then everything’s messed up. That’s the one I want to see
on the regular right there. Now I just got 96 2900 just under 180 ball speed. Yeah. I mean, you’re reacting to it. I can you
can just tell like there’s there’s not as much as that a wayward crazy one that you’re
like, “Oh boy, I need another ball.” Um that I’d take that any day. Yeah. So more
weight forward, got the spin average down, moving that weight to the heel side reduced how
much we have. And then that overall that elite head just had a a tighter, stronger dispersion.
So that’ll be a fun one to take home. when you know you get on the course that you you’re
used to playing, you start I think you’ll notice like oh wow like that I’m definitely
closer to where I want to be more often and no sacrificing ball speed. I mean see this last
you know 82 81 you come down here you know we’re not even really seeing so that’s a that’s a
nice two ball speed ball speed and dispersion [Applause] [Music]
