MOORHEAD — Village Green’s Ben Welle defeated Jeff Bernstrom 5&3 to claim the F-M All-City Golf Tournament on Sunday at Moorhead Country Club.
Welle took down Taylor Shuck of Moorhead Country Club 7&6 in the semifinals. Bernstrom, also of Village Green, narrowly got past Rose Creek’s Tom Kyllo 1-up.
It was quite a week for Welle, who shot 62 during Village Green’s men’s day heading into the tournament. He shot a 28 on the front nine to get to 8-under then eagled the par-5 10th hole to get to 10-under with eight holes to play.
Welle, a former University of Kansas player, has also won the 2014 Pine to Palm and 2024 Red River Amateur.
Kyloo beat Shuck 2&1 for third place.
In seniors play, Perry Piatz of Oxbow beat Jim Johnson of Maple River 4&3.
The tournament returned after an eight-year hiatus and a new format with the top four players from each of the 18-hole courses in the area competing.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
