My irons are a total mess. Been playing about a year. Not really trying to change my swing much until closer to a 6 iron, but results are so smushed together. Who else has dealt with this?

I assume you deloft your 8,7,6 because the gap from P to 9 is crazy. and the 3 and 5 wood make no sense to me. Maybe not enough info on those in your app? Im not nearly skilled to enough to give you a complete breakdown of whats going on but you probably dont have enough data on some of these.

Have you ever tried to hit hybrids? Between my 3 wood and my 6i I have a 5h and a 6h. I got rid of my 5i just cuz I didn’t hit it consistently. Actually I didn’t hit it well at all at the time. I got a 6h cuz I was gonna ditch my 6i but after I bought the 6h I started hitting my 6i good. My 6i is my 155 club and my 6h is my 165 club. On top of that you just need more practice. Idk how much common sense you have but figure out why your low irons way off and work on those swings. I know I really focused on my low irons at first when I was first trying to improve. I just picked up a club again after 15+ years last year and I’ve shaved my hcp from a 27 last year to a 16 this year.

  3. I actually recommend you change your swing bc this is basically a total disaster. Unless you’re clubs are from the 1800s, not much about this makes sense.

No offense but this isn’t a gapping issue… this is a skill issue.

Ya can’t hit yer clubs sonny! Get a lesson!

You can’t be compressing the ball with all your irons with these gaps. The 9 looks right, but others suggest you’re not getting good contact. I’d start with ball position, making sure it’s centered on all irons. Could also be an equipment issue

  7. You’re just bad. Don’t worry about this until you can hit the ball with a shred of consistency.

I misread the title as GAPING NIGHTMARE and thought this was a post about my exgf 🤷‍♂️

  9. Comes with the territory of being new. I thought my 5i going ~145y was a club issue at first (it’s not a club issue). Can’t really comment more without a video. What’s your ball flight with mid irons? What’s your miss?

How many rounds is this data? Are you removing mis-hits from your averages?
I had roughly similar data to you. I just logged more rounds and removed the hits that were obviously total fuck ups. My irons are 5-10 yards apart and I couldn’t dial in my 3 woods so picked up 2/4/6 hybrids and bridged the gap to my driver while I try to figure out woods

You’re mishitting balls to get these numbers.

Your distances are a mess because you’re not hitting the sweet spot

  13. BirdiesAndBrews

Coming in way too steep on your attacks angle will do this for sure. You’ll get away with it with your wedges and PW and 9 sometimes but your irons will struggle. Probably take really deep divots.

As you get better, averages will make more sense. Just keep playing and have a basic idea for now.

My shots are very similar. My irons are very close to hybrids distances.

Not really. They all look good except the driver and 3 wood. Until you get better with them, I’d remove them from your bag and add a 7w so it falls between the 5w and 4i. Just play the 5w off the tees and go from there. You will probably play more consistently.

To me it appears that you swing the clubs you “like” or “trust” differently than those you do not. I overcame this by lining up clubs in order from 9i to 4i and hit them in order; starting w the 9. When you hit several good 9i move to the 7. If that goes well the 5. If not go back down 1 club to the 6. Then if good up to the 4. If not back down to the 5. And so on. Skip 2 clubs going up. Go down 1 club if unsuccessful.

    Good luck

Get a swing quest type watch and tags on clubs and measure on the course.

Get speed sticks rather than practice on range so much

I’m not so sure if it’s a gapping error. It’s a consistency error once you get more consistent with your ball striking the gapping should sort it self out. Whatever gapping you don’t like when you start getting more consistent you will be able to easily see and fix the problem.

I have no idea how this is even possible.

  21. You need to learn how to hit your irons before worrying about gapping. Its a nightmare because you aren’t hitting them properly. You are either casting or hitting them fat.
