KEWADIN, Mich. — The Western Michigan University golf team had a strong start to the fall season on Sunday in the first two rounds of the A-Ga-Ming Invitational.

After 36 holes on Sunday, Aug. 31, the Broncos currently sit third in the tournament with a team score of 293, only a stroke off of Ohio in second place. WMU was led by Megha Vallabhaneni, who ended the day one under par with a combined score of 143 after carding 70 in round one and 72 in round two. Vallabhaneni is tied for fourth overall at the tournament with Ohio’s Mackenzie McRee.

Vallabhaneni was closely followed by Jenna Hayes, who carded 145 through two rounds at one over par. Hayes recorded 74 strokes in round one and dropped her stroke total by three in round two with a score of 71 for ninth in the invitational. Macy Beeson finished the day third for the Broncos at six over par with a combined two round score of 150. Beeson carded 74 in round one and carded 76 in round two at Sundance for 20th.

WMU’s final score that was used for the overall team score came from Lauren Lupinek, who is currently sitting in 24th place at seven over par. Lupinek scored 78 in round one and improved her round two score to 73 for a total of 151.

The Broncos also had a secondary team compete on Sunday at A-Ga-Ming Golf Complex. Western Michigan’s B team currently sits at 56 over par, led by Bella Brooks in 20th place with a score of 150. Brooks scored 76 in the first round of the day before improving to 74 in the second round.

WMU will complete the third and final round of the A-Ga-Ming Invitational on Labor Day, starting at 9:00 a.m.
