Castletroy’s Andrew McCormack won the prestigious Midland Scratch Cup over 36 holes at Carlow Golf Club.

The Limerick golfer won by three strokes on five over 145 from Carlow’s Dylan Lambe.

In round one, McCormack shot 75 in wet and windy conditions to trail by two from Carlow pacesetters Lambe and Mikey Fenelon.

However, a brilliant level par 70 in round two gave McCormack his third scratch cup success in recent weeks.

Many illustrious names have won the Midland Scratch Cup, beginning with Joe Carr and including Tom Craddock, Mark Gannon, Martin O’Brien and Padraig Harrington.
