From the growth of junior golf in the UK to major investment projects, at least some of the golf industry appears to be in a healthy place in late summer 2025.
Junior golf is strong in the UK at the moment
Scottish Golf has brought out its report on its GolfSixes League in 2025, and it shows record participation since it was launched in 2018.
The programme, which provides a fun introduction to team golf in a pairs scramble format, saw 145 golf clubs sign up to it this year, eight more than the previous record set last year, and about 2,000 children participated this year.
Meanwhile, some clubs are building short game junior academies. Coombe Wood Golf Club in Surrey, for example, has built one recently and already more than 400 children are involved with it.
Golf is thriving in Northern Ireland
Following the successful Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July, data is coming out that shows that golf is leading to significant economic improvements in the country.
Golf tourism generated a record-breaking £86.2 million in 2024 while the Open alone is thought to have generated over £213 million in total economic benefit.
Even though there are only a few dozen golf clubs in Northern Ireland, there are currently four major developments surrounding golf courses that are underway, have just been completed or are just about to start.
These include a new golf hotel and a new links course, and are collectively worth more than £66 million in developments.
And it’s doing pretty well in the rest of the UK
The Golf & Leisure Group has revealed that the value of Bristol Golf Centre, which it acquired in 2021, has almost tripled in the last four years. It says its success is based on elevating the driving range experience with ample space for fun, food and social golf, while also catering to serious golfers by providing technology with ball flight accuracy.
In related news, The Mount Hotel Country Manor in Wolverhampton has said it will invest £2.5 million into its facility, which will include building a state-of-the-art driving range and padel courts.
Several other golf clubs have announced major investment projects of late, including for example, The Buckinghamshire, which will put £3 million into upgrading its major championship qualifying course and enhance year-round playing conditions.
It’s not just in England. As you might have seen on the news, a major new golf course has opened in Scotland. The New Course at Trump International Golf Links, Scotland was unveiled by President Trump.
