Áine Donegan hopes she can crown an excellent amateur career with double team glory in the AIG Women’s Senior Cup this weekend in Douglas Golf Club and the World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore this October.

Donegan will make the leap into the professional ranks and despite taking a month away from golf she finished in the top-25 at yesterday’s Women’s Irish Challenge on the LET Access Series in Malahide Golf Club.

The Lahinch amateur is representing her club in the AIG Women’s Senior Cup where she is leading her team alongside Aideen Walsh. The Clare club have come through their quarter-final tie with Kilkenny and are through to Sunday’s semi-final.

In just over a month’s time, Donegan, Beth Coulter and Emma Fleming will tee it up in Singapore for the Espírito Santo Trophy (World Amateur Team Championships).

Donegan has enjoyed plenty of team success recently, winning last year’s Curtis Cup and the Vagliano Trophy this summer, partnering Coulter in both, and she would love to land more silverware for club and country before entering the paid ranks this winter.

“Yeah me, Beth and Emma yeah we had a really fun time at that in Abu Dhabi two years ago. It will be my last amateur event then as well. I have Senior Cup this weekend with Lahinch,” said Donegan.

“For my last two amateur events to be with Lahinch and Ireland so representing club and country, what better way to close out my amateur career than that? I’m really looking forward to it we have a nice crew going to Singapore.”

Elm Park amateur Fleming will be making her World Amateur Team Championships debut for Ireland after earning a Home International call up earlier in the year.

The UCD student secured a top-20 at the Women’s Irish Challenge and has earned her place on the team, winning the Victorian Amateur Championship in Australia and making the cut at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.

“I’m so excited to play it,” she said.
