Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, hasn’t had the best performance in the Junior Players Championship, which started Friday at the iconic TPC Sawgrass. The younger Woods is far from contention for the title in the 54-hole event, which concludes Sunday.
Charlie carded a 4-over 76 in the first round, with three birdies and seven bogeys. His performance improved somewhat Saturday, as he struggled on only two holes, the second and 14th. However, his problems were serious, as he carded double bogeys on both holes. He made his only birdie of the day on the 16th hole, finishing at 3-over 75 for the round.
With a 36-hole score of 7-over, Charlie will enter the final round tied for 43rd in a field of 78 top under-19 players, including both Americans and internationals. Of those, 77 will tee off on Sunday, as recently crowned Junior PGA champion Lunden Esterline withdrew after a first-round 7-over 79.

This is Charlie’s Junior Players Championship debut at TPC Sawgrass, a course where his legendary father never missed the cut in 19 editions of the PGA Tour’s Players Championship (although he withdrew twice) and finished in the top 10 five times, including two wins (2001 and 2013) and a second place (2000).
Miles Russell Chases More History at the Junior Players Championship
Charlie is 14 strokes behind Junior Players Championship leader Miles Russell, who could add another feat to his already extensive golf resume. The top junior player in the country leads with a score of 7-under, two strokes ahead of Nicholas Logis.
Russell previously won the event in 2023, at the age of 14, becoming the youngest player to win the event since its founding in 2007. This Sunday, the high school junior will be looking to become the first multiple-time winner of the Junior Players Championship.
The Jacksonville Beach, Fla., native is the only player in the field with scores in the 60s in the first two rounds. He carded seven birdies and three bogeys on Friday for a 4-under 68, and backed it up with a 3-under 69 on Saturday, thanks to six birdies and three bogeys.
Charlie Woods will tee off in the final round at 8:20 a.m. ET, starting from the 10th hole, while Miles Russell will do so one hour and 50 minutes later, starting from the first hole.
