Junior Players: Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach has share of the lead
The 19th Junior Players Championship started on Aug. 29 with much of the day played under threatening skies and intermittent rain.

Charlie Woods just couldn’t quite get things clicking at TPC Sawgrass, and now has a steep, uphill climb with only 18 holes of golf remaining.
Woods, a junior at the Benjamin School and the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 3-over 75 in the second round of the Junior Players Championship on Aug. 30. That follows his 4-over 76 in Round 1.
He is now 7 over for the tournament through two of the three rounds, tied for 50th out of the 77 players in the field (one withdrawl).
Woods had just one birdie in this second round, which began on the 10th tee. He landed his second shot on the par-5 16th on the fringe on the front of the green, about 12 feet from the hole. He missed the eagle putt attempt but tapped in for a 4.
He had two double bogeys in his round, including on the 14th, where he got on the green in three but three-putted.
Jacksonville Beach’s Miles Russell, the Round 1 co-leader with Nicholas Logis, shot a 3-under 69 to get to 7 under for the tournament, in the clubhouse with a two-shot lead over Logis, who scored a 1-under 71 in Round 2. They were the only players to go under par in each of the first two rounds. Logis is four shots clear of four other players tied for third.
While Charlie’s famous father was not spotted on the course for the second straight day, the amateur was followed in a cart by Billy Horschel. The eight-time PGA Tour winner lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, home of the TPC Sawgrass.
Since 2007, the best male amateurs ages 19 and under have played at the home of the Players Championship on the PGA Tour. Russell won the event back in 2023 when he was 14, the youngest winner ever.
