The forever-relatable Tyrrell Hatton reacting to the moment JJ Spaun became a major champion. Dan Rapaport looks back at Oakmont in this week’s @Knockaround, including recapping Tyrrell’s trying week, Rory’s ridiculously cool looking rebound, and introducing the TOUR’s new CEO.

The intersection of golf and culture.

Behind every drained putt or hosel rocket into the stands is a human being with complex emotions—among them, an insatiable appetite for golf. That’s what we’re after. Golf’s humanity is what makes it so special to us. There have never been more reasons to love this game, and we’re endeavoring to explore them all.

I sat in dining. He’s hold it. He’s hold it. Jesus Christ. Unbelievable. See, everyone turns into an announcer. What a part to win. That’s incredible. My reaction to that is the guys who were conducting that interview, I salute you. You are dedicated to the job. Imagine being so committed to doing that interview with Turtle Hatton that you just missed the 60-footer to win the US Open. We’re going to hop into a segment that I call the knockaround presented by knockaround. Tier Hatton, he finished tied for fourth. This is kind of the first time he’s been in proper contention late in a major championship. He got a bad break. He kind of foresaw it himself talking about on Saturday how he’s had a couple balls that have stayed in the face of bunkers and that’s exactly what doomed him on 17. Adam Shfter tweeted this uh in the middle of the US Open that Brian Rolap, a highly respected longtime NFL executive who some consider as the potential successor to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, is leaving his post as the league’s executive vice president to become PGA Tour CEO. The question here now is what, if any, overlap is he going to have with Jay Monahan? Is this the beginning of the end of Jay Monahan’s tenure on the PGA Tour? Uh Rory Mack, if you’re going to throw a club, at least make it look cool. Oh, and he switches hands, too. Catches it right there. Holds it out there. The guy is coordinated. And we got a discount code. If you go to knockaround.com and use the promo code dan ongolf 20, you’re going to get 20% off your first order. I’ve been telling you guys all year, I mean it. Just stop spending ridiculous money on sunglasses. It’s just very very silly.

  1. Not a fan of him but he was a sportsman while watching the putt. Just wish he would watch the language on the course. Kids are watching.
