A day to remember both on and off the course, the weather was kind, and the craic was great as many a fine round was played, with nine teams decked out in pink from head to toe taking to the greens.
Coming out on top after a fine round were the team of Tracey Donnelly, Sean Darcy, James Kavanagh and Des Hinchin, finishing ahead of John Kelleher, Deirdre Kelleher, Mick Furlong and Deirdre Byrne’s team and team David Wolohan, Mary Snell, Kathleen Forde and Mick Doran.
Also on fine form on the day were longest drive winners Liam and Anna Abom, along with nearest the pin champs Patrick Costello and Teresa O’Toole, while best dressed prizes went to David Merren (for the second year in a row) who is also a volunteer driver with Arklow Cancer Support, and the ladies team of Vanessa Ormonde, Nora Devlin, Marie Forde and Carmel Murphy and men’s team Gavin Doyle, Sean Doyle, Noel O’Byrne and Paul Tracey.
Following the stellar example set by 2024 officers, captains Liz Reid and John Earls and president Ann Hosey, the day was organised under the leadership of captain Robbie Reddin, lady captain Cathy Anne Ryder, and president Mark Canavan.
“The event was supported by Pat and Daragh in the golf shop, Tracey in the office and Declan of Links Catering, and we were thrilled with the fantastic turnout of members, families, and friends who donated, sponsored, volunteered, and played,” Cathy Anne said.
“Overall, it was a brilliant day filled with community spirit, fun, and generosity – raising vital funds for a cause that means so much to many of our members and friends.
“Thanks also to Breda Kelly and Melinda Lambert for their invaluable help, and to Links Catering, who kept everyone well fed and watered with their special on the day.
“Thanks to this wonderful support, over €8,000 was raised for such an important local cause.”
Expressing her gratitude, Arklow Cancer Support founder Mary O’Brien thanked all who supported the event, highlighting the dedication of members who volunteer their time as drivers for Arklow Cancer Support, including Dave Merren, Eddie Gleeson, Rosemary Redmond, and visiting player Jim Kavanagh.
