How are good golfers able to consistently strike their iron so well when you, on the other hand, are finding it almost impossible to do this? Well, you have been lied to. And in this video, I’m going to be showing you why as many as 90% of golfers can’t strike the ball well. And it’s something completely unordinary you need to know so you’re not tricked into making the same mistake thousands and thousands of golfers are making. I’m just going to cut straight to the chase with this one. You have been told at impact in order to strike the golf ball well and to get way more consistency on your golf shots, so accuracy as well as better ball striking, you must make sure that the club face is perfectly square. Well, I’m going to tell you that’s completely wrong. And in this video, like I said, I’ll break things down and explain why that is the case. But just before I do that, it’s really important that I show you what good players do versus what you may be currently doing at the moment, just to help you understand this concept that I’m going to explain. So, you’ll notice with good players, amateurs, professionals alike, as they make their way into the down swing all the way through to impact, you’ll notice that they’re able to keep their hands nice and ahead of the club face at the moment of impact and also have this really nice shaft lean taking place here. That makes things much easier to get that compression ball and turf interaction and therefore get way better ball striking. But when amateur golfers tend to try this, they tend to leave the club face quite far open. So rather than leaving the club face quite far open and allowing for this huzzle here to lead the race to hit the golf ball first, they end up reacting. They end up reacting to this issue by jumping upwards, pulling their head down, and extending their arms to the golf ball and squaring up that club face. Now, we can see here as an exaggerated version of me here as I’m stalled very much so tall. We can see that the shaft angle is pretty much pointing directly down. Some of them will even get them past the golf ball just to make sure that they don’t leave this club face too open. And as you can imagine, this can cause all sorts of strike problems. Ground contact, thin contact, shots going left, right, you name it. And if we was to take a look at a comparison on the screen now between what I explain what good players do and versus players that are struggling with their ball striking, you can see the difference in the way they are at impact. One has the club shaft very much so on a leaned angle, what we call shaft lean taking place at the moment of impact. But another one, the shaft there is completely vertical to the ground. And that’s the main difference. But when you push the hands forward during the down swing or at any part of your golf swing and you find that the hands are going really nice and beautifully forwards, this actually has a promoter of an open club face like this here. But the more I forward my hands, the more that club face is going to open up. So there must be an extra component to add to this to help us square the club face. To square the club face, we don’t want to keep it square. We want to close it down. And this is the hidden component that you’ve been missing all along. We don’t want to keep the club face square, especially if we’re looking for awesome ball striking, ball and turf interaction. We want to be able to obviously get that shaft lean, which promotes an open club face, and then we want to close the club face down. This closure effect here is the game changer that you have been missing. So, what I’m going to show you now is a very simple drill anyone can do to add this movement, this golden nugget, this key into your golf swing. Being able to close that club face down, and it’s all to do with how those hands work in the golf swing. Now, what you’ll notice there is if I was just to continue doing this action here, in order for me to be able to take that club face from a very much so open position to squaring things up, we know there that I have to close it down. But to close it down, what am I using? What body part am I using here to be able to close that down? It’s my hands and wrists and maybe quite a bit of my forearms here. Rotating those there. As you can see, if we were just to zoom in on them, I’m rotating those over to close that club face down. Now, when we take a look at the lead wrist in particular, this is taking it from an extended position to a flexed position and my trail wrist from a flex position to quite extended or what we would call hinged. Hinged is the key. So, that movement there is all we have to add into the golf swing. But as you can imagine, adding that such huge range of motion is going to be quite tricky unless you add this drill. So the drill starts off without the golf club. So I’m going to ask you to take your left hand, so your lead hand, whether you’re right-handed or left-handed players, you’re going to place that lead hand onto your chest out the way for now. The trail hand is going to come out in front of you just like this here. Now, if I was just to swing simply back and forth and imagine that I’ve got that golf club in my hand. If I leave this palm here as I swing down into the golf ball, if I leave that palm there facing more towards the right, that’s a good indication that that club face is pointing to the right. It represents my club face angle. So, if I don’t close it down and square it up to the target, then I know I’m going to have to do a lot of that manipulation again. I’m going to have to stand up. I’m going to have to keep my head down and flip my wrist last minute. So, as I make my swing, all I’m simply doing is on the way down allowing for that hinge to take place, but I’m also allowing my arm here to start to gradually move in a way that allows me to get my palm to face towards the target. Now, it’s not ideally directly towards the target unless we continue this through to this position here. But what this is getting me to do is if my palm is facing down towards the ground like this here rather than over to the right hand side, that’s a great indicator that if we were to grab the golf club there, that setting me in position with a square face at impact. So it’s this moving my trail wrist here at the top of the golf swing rather than keeping it open. So you can practice that just simply with your hand like so. Once you’ve got used to that feel and that technique as you make your way into impact, you can start to practice adding that hip rotation. Those two movements there, that’s going to help you stay more over the golf ball as opposed to getting too jumpy. And once you’ve done that 10, 20 times, it’s time to build in this with the golf club. So, I’ve got an iron here just to start off with, but you can then obviously gradually build this up into the longer golf clubs. So, what I’m trying to do here is when I make my swing back and forth is from the top of my swing, feel that sensation there. And you can see already if I just allow my left hip to turn, my lead hip to turn into the down swing, as I feel this motion here of my trail wrist and hand during that down swing, it allows me to really trap that golf ball. So, the shot hasn’t quite picked up on that one there, but what we can see from this camera angle here is that my golf ball has started straight rather than pushing out to the right like that one. Difference between them, I held the angle with my right wrist here, but left the palm facing towards the right. The first one, I allowed that palm to start to face down and way more towards the target. And all you have to do from there then is start to build up the speed, build up that power. Don’t be afraid of hitting the ball hard for this because this drill here is getting you to purposely trap that golf ball when you make your way to impact. That’s going to really help you get that ball and turf interaction, the compression that we see the good players do and help you at impact be able to have that shaft lean, but also compress the golf ball, keep that face square. I could go on. So, full swing, full speed, getting up to the top. And I’m really feeling this motion here. I’m really feeling that twist in my wrist. Getting that palm to face down, to face towards the target at impact rather than leaving it open at impact. So up to the top, that feel there as I make my way into the down swing along with just adding more rotation just to stay over the golf ball. Yep. And we’ll take that shot there. really good strike, really felt that compression, that turn of my trail wrist as I made my way into the down swing. And that just made it much easier for me there just to get that ball then turf into action, that awesome strike that we see a lot of the good players do, amateurs and pros. Is this just for irons or can you use this same feeling for the driver?
Hybrids please
Would love a hybrid video Harry.something thing that seems to confuse me with my iron is how to address them to the ball should the face be totally straight or slight of to the right?!my face point slightly right of target is this wrong.love the vid
If you don’t like the feeling of bowing your wrist can you just start with a strong grip and keep you lead wrist flat at impact?
Woods please
Hybrids and woods. 😊
Both please. Hybrid and wood!
Both

Hybrids please Harry! Loved this video and so much to take away – thank you!
This is why you shouldn't look for answers on YouTube 😂 get lessons people & ignore anyone who tell you otherwise.
Both please.
Problem is, if you come even slightly over the top with this move you’re going to hit a godawful pull hook. This is great advice if you fight pushes and slices, but if your misses are pulls and pull hooks, this is a death move.
Sorry, I would be hooking the ball 20 yards right of the green! Iam left handed. I never slice the ball. I start with the club face open, by the time I make contact the club face is square to the ball. That's my swing, what your showing does not work for every swing.
both please lol
Woods please Harry 👍🏻
How is this feel with hybrids woods and driver please
