Concerns have been raised the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort may not be able to host the PGA Tour’s curtain-raiser in 2026.
The North American circuit always kicks off the opening drive of the campaign with an elite field in Hawaii.
The tournament used to be reserved for PGA Tour winners but is now one of nine ‘signature events’ with a $20m purse.
But according to the Associated Press, the PGA Tour may be forced to make alternative arrangements as the Plantation Course is currently undergoing a 60-day closure owing to a water dispute.
The course’s general manager, Alex Nakajima, told AP the course has been ‘damaged and without water for months’.

He proposed the 60-day closure to ‘increase our changes to save the course and the tournament’.
The course has also filed a lawsuit against Maui Land & Pineapple, alleging the water delivery system has not been properly cared for.
Said lawsuit states: “MLP has knowingly … allowed the Ditch System to fall into a state of demonstrable disrepair.
“That disrepair, not any act of God, or force of nature, or other thing, is why users who need it are currently without water.
“Water is scarce not because rain is falling in significantly smaller quantities. Rather, water is scarce because MLP has failed to honour its promises to maintain the infrastructure used to collect, carry, and store it properly.”

The PGA Tour are ‘monitoring the situation’, according to AP.
PGA Tour’s 2026 schedule
The PGA Tour unveiled their full 2026 schedule before the Tour Championship.
It features 35 official FedEx Cup tournaments and nine signature events.
The biggest surprise was the announcement the PGA Tour is returning to Donald Trump’s Doral course in Florida for the first time since 2016.
The Miami Championship will be played over April 30-May 3.
