Graham McDow has made it clear that he hopes to be part of the European Rder Cup setup when the event returns to Ireland at Otterm Manor in 2027. The Northern Irishman is no stranger to Rder Cup action, having played four times and served twice as vice captain. However, McDow has not been involved since the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits after joining LIIV Golf in 2022 and resigning from the DP World Tour, which currently makes him ineligible for an official European role. Still, McDow remains hopeful about a return in some capacity. Speaking to BBC Sport, he said, “It goes without saying as we look towards Otterm Manor in two years time, I would do anything to be in that European team room, to be part of that team, to put that Team Europe shirt on one more time, to have the badge on my chest, to cheer the guys on and help Europe win another RDER Cup. I hope to be there.” The 45-year-old further emphasized his passion for the event. John asked me earlier this year if I would accept a vice captain role at Beth Paige Black. I replied, “If they asked me to make coffees for you, I would go and make coffees. That’s how much it means to me and how much I want to be there in a supporting role for team Europe.” Looking ahead, John Rom is expected to return to the European team as one of Luke Donald’s six captain’s picks, while his LIV golf teammate Trell Hatton has already qualified automatically. Both Rahm and Hatton remain members of the DP World Tour and have appealed sanctions against them. With McDow’s desire clear and his experience invaluable, team Europe could have a familiar and passionate presence waiting at Otterm Manor 2027.
