[Music] in the half light of our goodbye. [Music] Today we gather to celebrate a marvelous beginning in the lives and in the love of these two people. And you as their dear friends and family are in a unique position to offer very special and sincere thoughts and prayers for bridegroom and bride before the future upon which they’re about to embark. [Music] [Music] [Music] Welcome everyone. Thank you so much for attending Katherine and Riley’s wedding, sharing this special celebration, and supporting our family. Many of you already know this, but when Katie started working in LA, she decided that she wanted to rebrand and be called Catherine. So, I’ll be using both names interchangeably tonight. As the youngest of four, Katie was incredibly motivated to keep up with her older sisters. So, she observed, she learned, and then she proceeded to turn it up a few notches, always with her unique sense of flare, attitude, and drama. She didn’t just live in our house, she starred in it. Whether it was insisting that she be included in every sister’s carpool trip and demanding that she ride shotgun on top of it or requesting that every member of the family sing happy birthday to her in a specific way or visiting Rich’s office and telling his associate Steve, “You know my dad’s the boss of this place, right? [Laughter] Catherine always made her presence known. A girl house can be full of drama, and Katie probably contributed more than 50% of that drama to the fell residence. In the fourth grade, Katherine’s class was given an assignment to write a few paragraphs about how he or she might envision their future. Katie wrote that she wanted to marry a professional baseball player, travel with his team across the country, have three children, and then when her husband retired from baseball, she wanted to move to Texas and live happily ever after. Then in the sixth grade, Katherine’s class was given a similar assignment. This time she wrote that she wanted to attend USC medical school, become a psychiatrist, get married, have three children, live in Newport Beach, drive her dream car. Not sure what that dream car was, but I’m assuming it was an Escalade and live happily ever after. Katherine, I think you can imagine what your dad might say at this moment. So, I’ll say it. Now that you’re married, it’s never too early to start having those babies because we’re not getting any younger. Riley, you’re married to a special woman who continues to bring our family so much joy and flare, attitude, and drama. But that’s okay. I think that will always be Katherine’s role. Katherine and Riley, your marriage marks the beginning of a new chapter, not only for you, but for our family as well. Marriage isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. May you make many wonderful memories together and face life’s challenges as true partners. We love you. Cheers. Have fun. Right here on this ground where we are standing, holding dreams with open hands against the sky. So clear it’s better than we planned it. This rising sun was meant for you and I. We see it now. These words that we have spoken giving purpose to the hope that we have found. [Music] There’s proof in the days before finding me in these moments playing out. We see it now. Story comes together. Good evening everyone. First off, I would like to thank Catherine’s family for hosting such a great celebration for us all today. Having spent many years knowing Riley, there were a lot of stories that came to my mind while writing the speech. But when I really started thinking about the consistent theme, it all boiled down to two of Riley’s best characteristics. The ability to make people in his life feel comfortable and included in any situation and his diligent research and curiosity for both the big and small things in life. Whether it was trips visiting Riley at Gonzaga during college or staying with him when he moved down to LA, I felt welcome into his life during every new stage. He always had a new topic to get your opinion on and make sure to bring you on any in on any inside joke. Riley is also down for new adventures or activities as long as he has had the time to get his head around the idea of it. There is nothing Riley loves more than deep diving before a trip or finding the best local experiences or more sufficient marathon training strategies when we’re all signing up for a marathon. This extends to other things in life, too, including analyzing the best kitchen wooden spoons or understanding the fabric content of every single piece of clothing he buys. But with this, I know anything he commits to is a lifelong commitment. That brings me to Katie. When I first heard about Katie, I was so excited to meet the person that Riley had chosen. Some of my first meetings with Katie included line dancing to country music in a hotel room at the montage and grabbing hand scoop ice cream at Ryade. While these might seem like complete opposites, I think this encompasses who she is as a person. Katie is down for any experience as long as she can add some flare and sparkle to it. Nothing demonstrates this more than signing up to hike Halfdme, a 16-mi hike, gaining 5,000 ft of elevation with Riley, myself, and Scott. She not only completed the hike, which required starting in the dark and carrying 20 lbs of supplies up the mountain, she did it in pink hiking boots. I know Riley will keep coming up with ideas, big and small, and I am so excited, Katie, that you will be along for the ride with him. We can’t wait to see what adventures that are in store for the both of you in the future. Thank you to both for letting me be a part of this big day. And I’d like to raise a glass. Love you guys. And cheers to Riley and Katie. I was a strange in the crowd. You were a star in the clouds. And when our eyes they finally met, I could see our story months ahead. [Music] You show me worlds I never knew. [Music] You turn my darkness into blue. Now I’m feeling 10 ft tall. You know, she’s been waiting for this day probably since she first learned the word wedding. She’s dreamt of every intricate detail and finishing touch. But what became increasingly important to her was for family to be here. So, as we celebrate, we would be remiss not to mention someone who is not physically with us, but whose presence is deeply felt and remembered in every corner of this day. our dad. Katie, we see so much of dad in you. Not only in your sense of humor and wit, but in your compassion, your generosity and loyalty. You carry an infectious energy, are the life of the party, and have the innate ability to light up the room just like him. He would be so proud today. Not only because you found someone who makes you so happy, but be but because you carry his strength and unwavering spirit in everything you do, as well as his redhead jean. Dad believed in you, rooted for you, and laughed with you. It’s important for us to celebrate the way we the way we know he would. I can genuinely say your life together will be anything but ordinary. Instead, I know you will be so fulfilled because of the extraordinary adventures and experiences that you bring into your lives. Just by watching you two together, anyone can see the depth of Riley’s love and care for you, Katie. Through the way he looks at you and his everyday gestures, seeing you today looking beautiful, so happy, and marrying someone who loves you the way you deserve, it’s impossible not to feel overwhelmed with gratitude. You are so special and have lit up my life in more ways than I can count. Thank you for being the best sister and best friend. We are beyond excited for you and this next phase of your life with your little family, you two and Stanley. We know your commitment, love, and passion for each other will hold true. And always remember, no matter what challenges you face, to please always include laughter. So, let’s all raise a glass. Katie and Riley. Oh, thank you, Katie and Riley. We just want to thank each and every one of you for coming out and that combination of people that you know are here to support us and to celebrate us. I’m sure we’re forgetting some. New Mexico, New Mexico, New York, Minnesota, and we just cannot thank you enough for the effort in traveling out here. Hawaii. Hawaii. Yes. And so I just want to take a minute to thank my parents, um, John and Jod, wherever they are. Yeah. It is just so remarkable to have been raised and have a foundation that you guys have provided me to show me what marriage and love and just the consistency of what it’s like to be great parents. [Music] We just couldn’t be more grateful um for what he did and what he’s done. And I have endless thank yous for bringing me Catherine and bringing her into this world and um raising her into the person that I fell in love with. So, thank you. [Applause] Uh Amy and Sarah, thank you for your speech. Uh absolutely nailed it. It was beyond beautiful. Um certainly couldn’t do life without you and certainly couldn’t do the last several months without you. So, thank you for your endless support, encouragement, positivity, um, endless thank yous. Um, to my mother, [Applause] first of all, congratulations on being officially done with wedding planning for good. Done. Yep. Three weddings and you are officially done. Um, as everyone pretty much who did a speech uh hit on is I was corny. Corny as it sounds, I was that girl who has dreamt of this day. Ever since I was a little girl, no matter how tomboy or butch I was, I always imagined and dreamt of this wedding day. Didn’t know who I was going to marry, but I certainly dreamt of uh this day being surrounded, of course, by family and friends. We both couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. Um, Shady Canyon is kind of a second home to myself and family. We grew up here. Pool days, gym days, dinners, annual Christmas Eve with family, friends. Um, and I feel very, very connected to dad in this place. So, thank you for allowing us to get married in a place that he loved. So, thank you. Thank you. And I’m going to go change my outfit now. [Applause] It’s like finding a treasure that’s always been hiding. The first time that I see inside it and realize it’s always been you. It’s like pages and pages of stories of greatest adventure in glory. It’s always been about you. When I close my eyes, you see I want to Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Forever. You catch my breath.
